Why I like Jersey Shore

Jersey Shore is, in my opinion, the best reality show out there. Not that I watch much reality shows but I've seen enough snatches of them to be unable to watch more than 30 seconds. Compare the lively, very funny, outrageous "Jersey Shore" cast with the excruciatingly boring Housewives of wherever, or the bizarre Kardashians. Sure, the "Jersey Shore" cast is lacking in some brain cells but they at least seem real. Real stupid but still real. The Housewives look like they would crumble into a pile of designer clothing if they were stripped of collagen, globs of make up and push up and suck in Spanks. The "Jersey Shore" cast is half naked much of the time so there's not much to hide. After all, we saw Snooki in her mug shot so she doesn't have any surprises. The guys almost never wear shirts and as shallow as they are, they have to be credited for keeping their bodies in great shape. It can be argued that "Jersey Shore" has youth on their side, but we don't care about the fairness of age versus experience, etc. we just like to be entertained and "Jersey Shore" does that better than any other reality show.

"Jersey Shore" is a welcome respite from the stress and intensity that so many of us are afflicted with on a daily basis. For adults, cartoons just don't do it and comedy shows and their incessant jokes give no time to just relax. When watching "Jersey Shore", you can just switch of your mind and follow the ridiculous antics of the cast as they attempt to "work" serving ice cream, party until they fall on their faces, find anything to fight over and the best part-the fist/slap fights. On "Jersey Shore", slapping each other around is common as well as beating on others in defense of a house "brother or "sister". In a way it's kind of cute the way they fight for each other but most of all it's just funny. I could do with less of the Ronnie - Sammi soap opera fighting but it's still entertaining. Ronnie seems to be the dumbest of the cast but his Jekyll/Hyde drunk-/straight persona is really comic. All you need to do is turn off your busy brain and enjoy the show.

A word about Snooki. Everyone has an opinion about her and it's usually negative. Nevertheless, imagine "Jersey Shore" without her, it wouldn't be worth watching. She is the comic glue that ties the brainless show together, for that alone I give her credit. Who can't laugh when someone calls asking if she can talk to Angelina and Snooki says "no she died". Vinny describes Snooki as, "a walking disaster area" (think Lou Costello). She's kind of like a cupie doll, tiny and chubby with a cutesy name. I don't know if she would be as popular without the cute Snooki name but we don't need to deal with that higher thought when we are dumbed down to watch the show. The point is she's there to entertain us whether she does so consciously or not.

Love it or trash it, "Jersey Shore" is my favorite reality show. I am a little embarrassed to admit to that and I am probably not in the demographic of "Jersey Shore" aficionados, but so what, who will know?
