Why Should You Live in Texas?

Reasons to Live in Texas

D.K. Bernhard
If you are considering moving and want to know where you should live in this hard economic time, ask yourself what are the reasons to live in Texas.

History

Spain, France, Mexico, the United States, the Confederate States of America and Texas itself have all had ownership of Texas, and because of those combined cultures, Texas has become a melting pot of people, food, and countries. In fact, the phrase "Six Flags Over Texas" is in reference to these 5 powers (including Texas as an independent nation) controlling Texas.

Geography

Texas is unique in the fact its geography is an excellent snapshot of the southern United States. Texas is not just desert! With 14 soil regions, 10 climates and 11 ecological regions, Texas has a spot for those interested in many types of weather and landscape. Texas is not just desert, in fact only 10% of Texas IS desert.

Cities

Texas has a wide variety of cities, all with their own flare. Whether you want to live in San Antonio and visit the Alamo, Houston for the space center, Dallas for the Cowboys, or Austin for live music and art, Texas is the place to live for any type of family. Each city is completely different from the next, and is sure to have something new and interesting to do or see.

Benefits

When you think of big business and fortune 500 companies, New York City or silicon valley come to mind, Texas, the country with the second largest gross state product (on par with Canada or India) holds the second most fortune 500 companies, and hosts such corporations as Dell, HP, AT&T, Men's Warehouse, Blockbuster, and of course Texas Instruments. Jobs are available in much of Texas where most states are reporting all time lows in employment. If you are considering relocating for a more robust job market, Texas is the place for you!

Features

Everything is larger in Texas, including the state itself. Being the second largest state in the U.S., Texas has deserts in the south west to beaches in the south east. Urban sprawls in Austin and Houston, and the prairie where the buffalo roam in Abilene. Texas is so unique in the fact that regardless of the type of vacation you want, Texas has something to offer. If you are in the southern part of Texas, bring your passport and enjoy a day in Mexico!

Texas, it is what you want it to be!

I was in Austin when the Armadillo World Headquarters was the place to go for music. Loved the lunches too. Still hold a soft spot in my heart though most of my favorite spots are gone now.

The only time I was in TX was a few weeks in El Paso a number of years ago. Lousy Nov weather so didn't leave the hotel much. Can't say I was very impressed. I've lived a lot of places and visited a lot of others, but never saw much of TX, but would like to.
