I love being surrounded with nature. The trees tower over you, with the breeze rustling through the leaves. The ground is soft with moss and small grasses growing. The lake water is cool and clean, with rough sand covering the bottom. You can smell the fresh air, a nearby barbeque and the delicious fragrances of the wildflowers. All this nature is simply grand and to be part of it is amazing.
The wildlife at the cabin can be very friendly. Loons on the lake swim around as if no one is watching, birds hop around looking for food and there is often the casual chipmunk or squirrel hunting for nuts. Deer can be seen throughout the day and you may even spot a wolf. All these animals are living throughout the wilderness and spend their life one with nature.
The cool morning and cool evenings are another one of my favorite things about the cabin. The heat can be unbearable at home with no relief at night, but at the cabin the night almost always brings cooler temperatures. I love this break from the heat, but also love that during the afternoon the temperatures are warm enough to swim and sunbathe.
Campfires and cabin life go hand in hand. There is almost always a fire going at the fire pit with chairs surrounding it for casual conversations. The fire brings warmth and comfort to all who surround it and many memories are made here.
The lake is another awesome feature cabin life has to offer. Whether you like to swim, sunbathe, canoe or fish, the lake has something to offer for everyone. Laying on the dock you can hear the water turning and the waves crashing gently onto the stones. The sounds and sights of the lake are beautiful and should be experienced by all!
The four-wheeling trails that wind through the hundreds of acres of national forest are another hit at the cabin. Everyone loves to cruise through the forest anticipating what will be around the next corner. Splashing through puddles, running over rocks and racing down the trails on an ATV is another one of everyone's favorite cabin activities.
As the sun sets, the skies turn into beautiful shades of red, yellow, orange, blue and purple. Sitting on the dock, watching the sunset reflect over the lake is an experience to behold. Combine the sunset and lake with family and friends and you have all the ingredients necessary for a perfect evening. I love to watch the sunset at the cabin.
After the kids have gone to bed and the sun is down for the day, we can turn into the cabin for movie and game nights. Often the activities of the day leave us tired and weary, but we never fail to have some exciting moments left for the evening hours. Some favorite games include Sequence and Dominoes. Comedies, romances and action movies are always welcome as well.
One last favorite thing about the cabin is the family that gathers there. There is no greater comfort than to be surrounded with those you love. Many lasting memories are made throughout each weekend spent at the cabin, and I'm so thankful for the family there to share in them with. I just love the cabin life, and I hope you do too!
