Why I Love Jason Castro, Even Though David Cook Will Win American Idol

Jason Castro is a Sweet, Innocent Rustic Rebel Kid; The Kind We Invite to Sunday Dinner

Aly Adair
Jason Castro, Mr. American Idol hopeful, is the kind of young man that would drive any parent crazy if their daughter brought him home to Sunday dinner. On first impression, a parent might think Jason Castro and his signature golden brown, extremely long dredlocks spell dread for their daughter. Although, their cool daughter would probably see Jason Castro's dredlocks as an art form, just another way American Idol final four Jason Castro complements his completely uniform, almost stubbornly unique style of singing.

Once the main course of Sunday dinner is served, parents would quickly realize how dichotomous Jason Castro really is. On the one hand, Jason's appearance would leave Dad wondering what future his daughter might have with Mr. American Idol hopeful. On the other hand, Jason Castro's sweet, innocent charm, bedroom eyes, and a smile built in Heaven might comfort Dad into believing his daughter will be greatly loved by her man. What? Bedroom eyes? Oh no, Dad, don't go there! Too much information is not good at Sunday dinner. Just let Jason Castro strum a few ballads on his guitar and serenade the family with those halo-covered pipes during dessert. Dad, you can dream of your daughter having a wonderful future with the wildly successful American Idol final four recording artist, Jason Castro.

I don't think American Idol hopeful, Jason Castro owns any pants other than jeans, which is the way we like our rustic rebels in Austin, Texas. That is precisely why I thought "Forever in Blue Jeans" was the perfect song choice for Jason on American Idol's Neil Diamond Song Night. Jason Castro reminds me of the young hippy singer songwriters who became famous after their gigs at Austin's Armadillo World Headquarters in the 1970s. Jason Castro has conviction to remain true to his folksy, guitar-picking style of singing much like the conviction of other rebel singer songwriters like Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, Bob Seger, and Jimmy Buffett who all sang with their souls at the Armadillo World Headquarters. Every legendary singer songwriter started somewhere.

Jason Castro admits that his audition for American Idol was only the 5th time he had ever sang in public. Jason may not have the range of voice, stage experience, or ability to create unique song arrangements the way David Cook does, but Jason Castro stays true to his soul and his style. Jason Castro will probably forfeit the title of American Idol for sticking to his uniform rustic rebel convictions, but I will buy Jason Castro's albums, pay to see Jason Castro in concert, and if I had a single daughter, Jason Castro would be welcome at our home's Sunday dinner.

Jason Castro: stay sweet and true to yourself. Don't change out of those jeans. Good luck on American Idol.

Jason reminds me of the true raw talent that so many people from my 60's generation produced like Arlo Guthrie, Dylan, Joplin and others who were not really great shakes as singers but you recognized their voices and remembered them the next time you heard them. I actually like David Cook, David A. and Jason. I think they'll all do well no matter if they become the next Idol or not. I would, however, only buy the music of Jason and David A. and I love old R&R.

Fantastic article, really love Jason and can proudly say that I do vote for him and will support him no matter what happens on the American Idol stage. Go Jason, keep singing, from a fan for life....Just goes to show don't judge a book by its cover!

I agree with you. Both the statement about loving Jason, and the statement of Cook winning. I'd love for Jason to at least make it through to the Top 3 though. Kick off either the Screemesha or the Lizard-Disney-Boy. They're both annoying.

    I agree 100%!! I adore them both!!!!
