Why Manufacturing Has Left America?

While eating dinner, this nice Friday evening, I am sitting close to a table full of men and women. They are discussing their jobs. It would appear that they aren't real happy with those jobs. For almost an hour, I have listened and made notes about their stories. This article is based on their complaints

As we sit in this economy and watch manufacturing continue to leave the premises, we are becoming blatantly aware of WHY! Why is because we have become a country of Titles, Promotions, Bonuses and Lies. Company after company here in America is more concerned with Titles than experience.

We put the Shipping and Receiving Clerk, in charge of the plant, if she looks good and has taken a boner from every executive above her.4 semesters of college, no knowledge of manufacturing and has slept with every CEO before her and she is running a corporate manufacturing plant.She has spent the last year traveling for classes, making major, life changing decisions for over 200 employees and has slept with the lead man, the CEO, and anyone else who looked like they wanted to. She is sleeping with the Supply Chain Manager at sister company.

How do we expect to compete with the world, when our CEOs,are recent shipping and receiving clerks, promoted because of sex? How does that work? If you give a great blow job and swallow, you can run major corporations here? No experience, just good sex? So, it isn't about how Good at the REAL job we are anymore, it is how many times you lay down and take one for the Boss?

A Company that makes it mandatory to attend a Friday Afternoon Golf Game or lose your job. A Company whose main focus, isn't getting the product right and getting it out the door, but a company whose focus is forcing EVERYONE to attend functions instead of working. A Company who insists its employees perform surveys or lose their jobs. A Company whose Engineers have no power to get the job done, but the Lead Man can tell them what he is going to do and what he isn't going to do. A Lead Man that runs to the CEO for even the most minor complaints. Complaints that should be handled through HR, not the CEO. Complaints that are at best, crybaby complaints. Inexperience complaints!

Lead men, menial position at best, are given their own Business Cards, no matter that they don't have a clue how to do their jobs, BECAUSE they slept with the CEO too? It is all about the SEX, not the REAL job? They are allowed to turn down work, lie, leave at will and treat their underlings, many who have much more experience, like crap? Is this what manufacturing has been reduced to in this country?

We have people who sleep their way into Titles, they surely don't deserve or have a clue how to do, yet they are at the top and manufacturing is STILL leaving the building. Leaving to go to cheaper, more dedicated workers and factories, who are more concerned with product vs SEX and Titles!

This is the manufacturing business in Colorado. This is how a major corporation does business. The original CEO was an Ex-Marine. He didn't have a clue about manufacturing of anything but death and soldiers. He became CEO of a major company, whose primary business is manufacturing. While he was CEO, he took away breaks, changed common rules of manufacturing and slept with the Shipping & Receiving Clerk. At one company wide meeting he was seen grabbing her ass and sitting her on his lap, in front of everybody in the plant. When he was ready to progress up the ladder, SHE became CEO. Are you kidding? The Shipping & Receiving Clerk, went from that job to CEO of a major company? Boy, she was a great sucker! Obviously!

When she became CEO, she was given Ca rte Blanche over the plant. She then saw fit to start sleeping with the Lead Man of the Stamping area. About the same age, she flaunted it all over the plant. All the while, keep in mind, she is married. Has been since she was a shipping and receiving clerk. Because of her blatant fraternization in the company, the Lead Man has gotten Business Cards(for what? Who will he give them to?)He has been allowed to turn work away. He abuses his employees and goes ballistic on them. He makes verbal threats to them.

A Company who is telling its employees, there is no more money this year, can afford to take off the entire afternoon, when time sensitive products sit undelivered. A Company who needs to get work done, allows the Lead Man to turn down work, let his employees just stand around because he is trying to get all the glory. Though, to date, he has yet to prove he can do anything. Employees who make lots of money are sweeping the floor, because he won't direct what is going on in his area?

How does that help save money? You have men making $30 an hour, sweeping the floor, because of an inexperienced Lead Man, sleeping with the Boss? Is that good business? NO! If anyone goes to complain, they are reprimanded. They are put on notice. Nothing changes. Reports are made to the Corporate Office to no avail. No one seems to be listening. Yet America's manufacturing status, continues to decline. We continue to send work across the Ocean or down to Mexico or over to China. Is America so stupid, they will sacrifice the well being of our country because our idea of getting to the top of business and your career has been reduced to how well you perform in bed? Not TRUE knowledge, but TRUE SEX?

Thankfully, this isn't every manufacturing company in America. This is just one that has lost touch with reality. They have stopped monitoring and counseling the people running their business. They have been bedazzled by ignorance and lust. They no longer ask, "Do you have experience?" They have just stood by and let it go this way.

The really sad part is the damage it is doing to America's reputation as skilled craftsmen and skilled labor. When the first requirement is your sexual prowess vs your REAL knowledge and experience, it is only a matter of time before the doors have to close. It is also sad to see hard working men and women, have to endure the abuse because of horrible choices like this CEO and the Lead Man, she protects. The abuse going on in this company is wrong on all levels and no one is going to speak up for change. They are all scared of losing their jobs, that will eventually be gone soon anyway.

Will America ever get it again? It doesn't appear that they will. It doesn't appear that manufacturing will ever return to it's previous glory. Between excessive wages, high demands on benefits and our constant efforts to shoot ourselves in the foot with scenarios like the one above, America is going the way of the British. We are becoming a country of SERVICE people. A country whose claim to fame is being SEXY.....Let's hope that carries us for a long ways.

It is amazing what you can learn while sitting next to people in a restaurant. Things you don't have a clue about, suddenly, you have a complete story. This was a sad one for me. This company has dedicated employees, yet they are continually abused and mistreated because of a few supervisors, whose lack of experience is painfully obvious to everyone but the Corporate Big Wigs, who may have slept with her too.
