I would be interested to know who is reading them just in case they are being read by victims who are still suffering in silence when they re effective counseling and interventions available.
I also note that despite these articles being well read that they seem to routinely get 'voted down'. These articles must surely be upsetting someone who is a registered member of this site. I challenge them, or such people to 'come out' and discuss what it is that is upsetting them.
I think the fact that people find it hard to understand and accept that males too can be raped indicates that perhaps many readers are battling to understand that the underlying reason for ALL forms of rape against victims of either sex is power, control and humiliation of the victim.
What victims wear or how they act does not influence much their chances of being raped. Studies show that many female victims of rape were actually wearing very 'boring, non provocative clothing'.
I have not come across any studies or findings that discuss what male victims were wearing; but then again this might also say something about what many of us believe about why victims get raped and also who gets raped.
Indeed absolutely anyone of either sex, regardless of sexual orientation, age, race, social class, occupation, etc can be raped.
It is also a documented fact that victims of rape, of either sex often undergo sexual arousal. Arousal can often be as a result of the autonomic nervous system in response to touch and/or fear and it is known, and well documented that a victim can somehow 'force' the body to respond in a sexual manner (or that's how it appears).
The most important thing we all need to understand is that the motivating reason a rapist has is to humiliate and disempower their victim. Armed with such an understanding it becomes easy to see how a big strapping strong macho man can be raped. All the offender needs is the means and motivation to do so.
Many of the following facts and figures about male rape given here are provided by the Sante Fe Rape Crisis and Trauma Treatment Centre:
One out of six men will be victims of sexual assault by the time he reaches 18.
Male rape occurs under similar circumstances as female rape: some one attacks the person with the need to overcome him in a violent, controlling way. The victim is overpowered either physically with force, or psychologically with threats, and forced into sexual contact.
Most male rapists who rape men are heterosexual, have access to typical sexual relationships with females, but feel greater control when sexually overpowering a male. Men who rape other men are most often not homosexuals.
The attack can happen anywhere: in a dark parking lot, in the victim's home, or while he is hitchhiking, to name a few. The sexual preference of the rapist is not important here; the attack is one of violence, not of passion or sexual gratification. It is an attack of aggression in which the rapist uses violence, control, and sex to make himself feel more powerful.
The most commonly reported cases of male to male rape involve forced anal penetration.
Other forms of rape against males include; fellatio, penetration to any extent with an object into the anus, cunnilingus or sexual intercourse (penis to vagina) on a female offender. Ejaculation does not have to occur for these acts to be considered rape.
Keep posted. There's much more yet to write on this topic.

Post a CommentAs a victim of rape I can say that in this regard I am glad I am a femme as at least there is some support for me which without I am sure I would not have been able to deal with it to the degree that I have
The support is very instrumental in my mental wellness and I am so sorry for those who cannot find this help due to the many reasons including stigma
