Why Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Should Get a Trophy Patch

Otter
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots came out for the Playstation 3 in June 12, 2008. The exclusive game was a critical and financial success. However, there was one minor problem: the lack of trophy support. Sony didn't add the trophy feature to the Playstation 3 until a month after Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots launched. Furthermore, it didn't become a requirement for publishers and developers until the start of 2009.

Still many developers decided to retroactively patch in trophy support for their titles. Publisher Konami and developer Kojima Productions, however, hasn't decided yet if their Playstation 3 exclusive game would be getting the same treatment. Here are a few reasons why Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots should get a trophy patch.

Best-Selling Title
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is one of the best-selling games on the Playstation 3. Not only is the exclusive title managed to become a Greatest Hits, it is also the best-selling game on the system to date. Furthermore, it was responsible for the big increase in hardware sales for the Playstation 3 the month it launched. Needless to say, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a killer app and system seller for the Playstation 3.

For that reason, the game should be patched with trophies. After all, Sony doesn't want the best and most popular Playstation 3 exclusive game to not take advantage of all the features on the system. Without trophy support, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots doesn't feel like a true showcase title for the Playstation 3.

Easy Implementation
Implementing trophy support into Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots shouldn't be too much work for Kojima Productions. This is because there is already a similar feature in the game. You can earn different emblems at the end of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots depending on your performance throughout the game. These rewards range from the most obscure to the most dedicated. Converting emblems into trophies should then be an easy transition for Kojima Productions.

Promote Metal Gear Online
Adding trophy support is also a good way to support Metal Gear Online. Only a small fraction of those who bought Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots played the online multiplayer mode. Kojima Productions can easily increase demand by adding trophies to Metal Gear Online. In turn, there will be more players, which results in more purchases for the expansions. Thus, Konami and Kojima Productions have everything to gain finically by implementing trophy support on to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

please add trophy support i want to play it again but i want to earn trophies i beat it on expert and it felt empty without a little ding please no online cause they become impossible as time goes and less people play and might as well make this patch include the most trophies of any other ps3 exclusive to emphasize the game as the face of the ps3

The author is extremely ill-informed... MGO and MGS4 are two entirely separate games. They aren't even bundled together in Japan! Therefore, they would have two completely different trophy sets. Since MGO is linked to a Konami ID rather than a PSN, implementation of trophies would be a stretch at best!

Lastly, Kojima already stated that they were going to patch MGS4 with trophies, we just had to be patient and wait for it.

Please... Think before you write your next article..
