Why Microsoft Paint is Awesome

MS Paint Deserves More Recognition!

Shannon Lausch
Forget Adobe Photoshop. Forget the GIMP. If you're a Microsoft user, why bother with these programs when you have Microsoft Paint? MS Paint is so magnificent, so perfect, it hasn't had an upgrade in years! It's okay if you feel overwhelmed at first with all the bells and whistles. The following are some of the best cutting-edge technologies in the program. Ready? Here we go:

1. Create your own colors!

Go to the "Colors" menu and click "Edit Colors." Then go to "Define Custom Colors." And there you go; you can create colors and even customize your color palette. Amazing! The possibilities are endless!

2. Make perfect shapes!

While the pencil and paint brush tool have their charm, it can be difficult to draw perfect shapes. Never fear! The canny developers behind MS Paint have got you covered. The square tool is especially amazing. Look at those four flawless right angles. Aren't they beautiful?

3. Color within the lines perfectly!

Now let's say you've created the perfect box-like shape. You think to yourself, "Why, this is a splendid square. But you know what would make it better? Color. But, oh, if I use a paintbrush, I might go over the lines! And ruin my square! Oh, woe is me!"

Well, you can put your worries to rest! Using the bucket icon with paint spilling over its side (a nice touch by those crafty developers), you can fill your shape with color with a click of your mouse.

4. Inverse colors!

You're going to freak when you see this trick! Click on the "Image" menu and choose "Inverse." All the colors become magically inverted! It's like some sort of bizarro world!

5. Flip and stretch pictures!

Okay, I have to admit while this isn't quite as fun as inversing colors, it's still pretty awesome. By going back to the "Image" menu and choosing "Flip/Rotate" or "Stretch/Skew," you can further enhance your MS Paint antics.

6. Spray paint!

Wanna pretend you're a gangsta? It's easy with MS Paint. Click on the spray paint can, and you can pretend you're a masterful graffiti artist! What will they think of next?

7. Use text in your drawings!

Text? In your drawing? Yes, it's possible. Click the "A" icon and go crazy! I recommend using Jokerman or Comic Sans-the best fonts of them all.

8. Create Photoshops!

You better sit down for this tip. Are you sitting? Okay, good. You can open up picture files in Microsoft Paint. And...are you still sitting? You can draw on them! Hehehehe!

So there you have it. Go to Microsoft Paint and set free your creative spirit!

when Paint can do layers, custom brushes and becomes extensible, THEN it will be awesome.

I use MS Paint on Linux! Through Wine. It can be done! GIMP is not user friendly. For Geeks it is great. For guys like me - NAAAH! I can't even change colors with GIMP! I do wish you had some special concepts with it, rather than describing its features.

Wow. You're obviously being sarcastic, but it seems you're unaware of the real benefits that MSPaint actually has. Such as pixel editing? Try doing that in Photoshop, and you'll just have a headache on your hands.
