Why Microsoft Should Release an Xbox 360 Slim

Otter
The Playstation 3 Slim was recently released and is selling out everywhere. The new model is greatly boosting demand for the struggling Playstation 3 so far. The Xbox 360 currently holds a moderate lead over the Playstation 3. While Sony manages to cut down the Playstation 3 in size, Microsoft hasn't done the same yet to their video game system. Here are a few reasons why Microsoft should release an Xbox 360 Slim.

Competition
The Xbox 360 is in second place behind the Nintendo Wii and in front of the Playstation 3 in terms of worldwide hardware sales. However, Microsoft is closer to Sony than they are to Nintendo. Only seven million units separate the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. Not to mention that the Playstation 3 is outselling the Xbox 360 in Japan and evenly in Europe.

With the Playstation 3 Slim, demand will rise for the competition. To counter, Microsoft needs to announce their version of an Xbox 360 Slim in order to stay ahead of Sony. Otherwise, they could easily fall to last place in the console wars race.

Cost-saving
In order to build the Xbox 360 Slim, Microsoft will need to first shrink the chip set of the system. Doing so will reduce the size of the system. As a result, the Xbox 360 Slim will be cheaper to manufacture with smaller components, a smaller casing and less manufacturing costs. The new slim model will help save cost for Microsoft, which will then be able to lower the price of the system to consumers. Subsequently, demand will increase for the Xbox 360.

Prevent Hardware Issues
The Xbox 360 Slim can also be used to eliminate hardware problems for the system. Microsoft decided to get a head start on the competition by launching the Xbox 360 early. Unfortunately, this led to hardware failures like the Red Ring of Death and E74 Errors. These issues persist even today after numerous revisions and have literally cost Microsoft billions of dollars. For the Xbox 360 Slim, Microsoft will have to shrink all chipsets to 45 nm, which will prevent the overheating issues.

Re-branding
By reducing the size of the system, Microsoft will also give the Xbox 360 Slim a new look. This can also lead to a new re-branding opportunity similar to what Sony is doing with the Playstation 3. The Xbox 360 is closing in on its fourth year of its lifecycle with no successor is in sight. Microsoft is planning to do a re-launch of the Xbox 360 sometime in 2010 with Project Natal, so releasing the Xbox 360 Slim at the same time would significantly boost demand for the system.

they should, no they need to do a re design of the system.
    improve the reliability.
make it compatible with 1Gbps net speeds.
    improve the cooling system.
    improve the size.
BUILT IN WIRELESS AND WIRELESS N SUPPORT.
preferably a new optical drive must be DVD so old games will work, and old consoles can play new games.
how about than new technique that allows you to store large amounts of GBs per DVD
cant remember how much but it was larger than 20GBs thats perfect.
O and improve the noise, the only thing my 360 is missing is a 3 2 1 we have lift off.

Microsoft has no concept of what reliable means. They spent years of releasing botched software then issuing patches. And they took the same approach with hardware. Fortunately for them, lots of 360 users are too daft to say no, this is my fifth and final 360.

If they try and make a slim, they'll bork it. Leave it alone. The 360 is finally now more reliable.

But ask yourself: If your toaster broke down several times, would you buy the same toaster again? Hmm, probably not..

slim 360 might not be a good thing - reason? its been years after the original 360 launches and several version of it, they're still fail to address the original issue of an unreliable machine. if they actually built a new slim one, i guess it will back to square one again before they release another "updates".

and yeah - i support built in wireless! dont be too greedy.

I agree with D, Its always easy to write an article about what MS can do to improve their console, but you know as much as the next person reading this article that, the odds of MS making changes due to you arguments ain't gonna happen.

Write an article based on facts of a possible slim, which will never happen then we will be interested

Why would they do that when there is rumored to be a Natal model next year?

It's not as easy as you're making it seem. All I read on this dumb site is this company should do this, this company should do that. Inform the people stop barking orders at game companies, you're just a worthless writer.
