Why Mind-reading is Fake

Houdini himself never found one spiritual medium or mind reader that he considered to be the real deal. That's good enough for me. The most famous magician of all time spent years revealing these people as frauds. I've been to many a psychic myself and boy, are these people usually off. I'm not talking about the whole, telling me my future bit, but the part where they read you and tell you what you're supposed to be thinking. As this first part of a reading unfolds, it's your reactions, subtle and not so subtle, that clue them into where to go next. You're supposed to be dazzled when they tell you that you're there looking for answers. Wow, I get more insight from fortune cookies, plus my "lucky" lotto numbers. Beat that mind readers. For the vast majority, mind reading is about reading people and leading them where you want them to go. Now, in my own personal experience, these "psychics" have always been totally off, mainly I believe, for the simple fact that I've been told I'm one of the hardest people anyone has ever seen to read. People are always encouraging me to take up poker for this reason alone. I've frustrated many a psychic and have actually started taking a bit of delight in messing with them in turn.

The fact is, that there is no hard evidence that mind reading exists in that mutant telepathic way we've seen depicted so many times on screen. I believe in precognition, mental links between twins, mothers and children and so forth, I have friends that I think about calling and then the phone rings and it's them. Most people have stories like that, maybe it's always knowing what song is about to play on the radio, who's about to call you, or you just get a feeling that someone needs you. What you have never seen proven is someone writing down a totally random something on a piece of paper and having someone else being able to tell them what it is. Chris Angel even offered up a reward for such an act, with the "top" psychics not willing to give it a go. Why? Because mind reading is about suggestion, and you can't suggest to a piece of paper to change what's been written on it.
