Why You Must Take Your Boyfriend or Husband to See the Movie 300

Lisa Ross
I dislike action movies. Far from finding them exciting, I tend to get lost quickly and even fall asleep after I lose interest. I'm not saying I drag my husband to romantic comedies; it is more a matter of avoiding action movies in general. But every now and then I see a preview for an action movie that actually looks interesting, and I decide to throw him a bone. If you also dislike action movies, here's why you should make an exception for 300.

This movie excels in dramatic, stylized scenes that are visually fascinating in their own right. The angles are dynamic, and when something important happens it's in slow motion. This helps me to feel the story rather than just see it. The slow motion parts bring me back to the story if my mind has wandered. I tend to get bored during long fight scenes, and if action movies aren't your thing, you know what I mean. You start to get a little bored, and next thing you know you're thinking about whether you should take the cat to the vet this week or keep using the eye ointment from last time and wait it out.

The movie, though it is long, goes quickly. There is a great story, and a nice balance of dialogue and action. The story was easy to follow. This movie has a love scene which is beautiful and stylish, and the entire movie has almost more male nudity than female.

I liked that the movie played heavy metal during some of the fight scenes. This is much better than the same old frenetic fight scene orchestra fare. That type of music at full blast is enough to guarantee that I'm going to lose interest and start balancing my checkbook in my head.

There were some scenes in 300 involving the use of rhinos and elephants in battle. I found this thrilling. I've suffered through plenty of action movies that didn't have cool unexpected things like that. I have no idea if any of that is historically accurate at not, but they could put Cartman from South Park in there for all I care. This was a good action movie that I actually liked.

300 is gory; there's no getting around that. But a good number of movies are these days, and if you've made it this far without figuring that out, then 300 is a good place to start. It is so visually stunning that the bloodshed becomes secondary. Honest, you won't feel a thing.

So grab your man and take him to this movie. If single and feeling lonely, go alone and take your pick from the droves of eligible guys, you know, the ones who sit one seat apart and have that vacant look in their eye from too much World of Warcraft. And that's some action you're sure to love.

I didn't like the movie. I thought visually it was cool, however, there were some long gaps with no dialogue. I felt like I was watching a video game.

I have to agree that I loved this movie. Let's not forget that the story speaks on the woman being a great part of society and a queen. Well that's a feeling that I got off of the movie. I don't know about you.
