First and foremost, Neil Gaiman is a geek celebrity.
This means that he is kept in the loop and is often participating in many of the most esteemed happenings in the geek community. His schedule takes him all over the world on a regular basis, and he keeps you, the dear follower, up to date on all his shenanigans. He often elaborates with pictures or links to articles, videos, and other geeky web content. He takes it seriously (and lightly at the same time), often responding to fans' questions.
Secondly, Neil Gaiman is funny.
If you've read any of his books, you know that he has a dark sense of humor and a creative imagination. This leads to tweets such as:
"If you are an ad executive planning to rip off this Ukrainian Sand animation for Coke or Sony, please die first: http://bit.ly/Wle1f"
or
"A woman's marrying a fairground ride. It's either beautiful or the stupidest thing I've read today (via @ibwhitty) http://bit.ly/Sq102"
or
"RT (the line between comedy and horror is so thin) @BeatGirl: nothing funny about broccoli. Broccoli is dead serious and is coming for you."
Basically, Neil Gaiman is nerdy just like the rest of us, and isn't afraid to broadcast this to the masses. If I haven't convinced you, read this article by Tim Danton on PcPro's website naming Neil the #1 UK Tech celeb, and check out Wired's Top 100 Geeks You Should be Following on Twitter, where he ranks #14 overall.
If you prefer the blog to the tweet, you can also check out his journal on his website which gets updated a couple times a week or so. Find out for yourself why Neil Gaiman wins the approval of so many despite being a slightly unknown figure, and add yourself to the list of people who agree that he is one of THE best people to follow, on Twitter or anywhere else.
P.S. Here is his Twitter
