Why You Should NEVER Use Expedia.Com To Book Your Vacation

Jack Oceano
Expedia.com claims to offer low prices, more hotels in more destinations, easy booking, and free rewards. But what Expedia.com claims and what it delivers are two very different things. Here is why you should NEVER book your vacation with Expedia.com.

The first reason you should NEVER book your vacation with Expedia.com is their abysmal Customer Service. Need to make changes or cancel a flight? Better schedule a day off and make certain you have plenty of airtime left on your cellular phone. Because each call to Expedia.com lasts no less than an hour.

Expedia.com outsources its Customer Service (just using that term is being generous) to the Philipines, where representatives are paid practically nothing to answer phones and deal with irate customers. There is a very good chance your call will ultimately be lost, and you'll have to call back. If you're lucky enough to get a good connection, don't count on having a representative who speaks fluent English, or even mediocre English for that matter. Not that it's their fault. This is just one instance of Expedia.com's relentless effort to cut costs - for themselves.

Your costs, however, are typically high with Expedia.com. Which is the second reason you should NEVER book your vacation with Expedia.com. Like paying booking fees? You can count on paying plenty of them at Expedia.com. (Would someone please find William Shatner?) And if you, for any reason, need to change or cancel a flight, you'd better be prepared to dip into your children's college fund.

With high fees and abysmal Customer Service, it is difficult to see how Expedia.com remains in business. Oh yeah, because it's nice and easy to book. We'll give them that. But in the course of your life, chances are there will come a time when you need to alter your plans, even ever so slightly. And that's when Expedia.com, with its inept representatives and ridiculous change fees, sets out to make your trip to paradise a living hell.

Do yourself and your family a favor. NEVER book your vacation with Expedia.com.

It is often much less expensive to rebook your flight directly with the airline than to pay Expedia.com's ridiculous change fees. Even if you've purchased a cancellation waiver, don't expect making a change will be easy. It won't.

Booked a room in Croatia. When my daughter arrived at the inn it was locked and no one answered either the phone number listed by expedia or an after hours number shown. She went to another hotel since it was after midnight (she mentioned her arrival time on her booking) and called expedia the next day. After weeks of trying to get a credit back we just told our credit card company to dispute. after 30 days it was resolved in our favor. 6 months later they have sent this old charge to collections. They are horrendous!

Expedia - You changed my first class booking from first class to coach on USAIR and UNITED.
USAir Lost a first class booking
UNITED - Lost a first class booking

This is a multiple city flight and I am 6'4" tall. I prefer to fly first class. I specifically chose each airline and airplane before booking.
I went to your site and picked the flights. Your "first flight" choice told me there were "only 2 seats at this price." I chose it and proceeded to choose the other two flights all in first cabin. At check out, the price was $2700 and I clicked OK- I agreed to pay $2700 for the flights. A red notice came up on the screen and said there was a change, click here. It told me the flight was now $970 (or so) plus taxes making it just over $1,000. There was a box to explain WHY and it had three possible reasons why the price was lower and that you pass the savings along. I was very surprised so I checked to make sure it was still first class (by hitting the back button) and ALL of the legs

BE WARNED NEVER use Expedia. My family and I booked a trip with expedia. Expedia mixed up my husband and son names during the booking. We did not find out untill the we got to the airport. WE called expedia and they said it's not their problem call the airlines but we paid 1800.00 dollars to expedia not the airlines. We stayed on th phone with expedia for 2 hours about the problem. We missed our flight. Finally, we got a later flight one less day for our family vacation and was never refunded any money. JUST A RIP OFF!

I used to work as a travel agent, many people also left the business because websites like Expedia, Travelocity and so on are literally bringing the business down, sure i know that many times it works and since it is always easy to book, people want to have that "I am a travel expert feeling" they just go and book it there, now when I read these reviews I can't help laughing because that is the price the travellers have to pay for taking their chances through these websites, no big science in booking a vacation, the science comes, when you have to face the problem and you have to deal with stories like that

You all are a bunch of idiots that obviously have no idea how to write or read. No wonder why you're having issues. You want someone to hold your hand while you book something and then later want to change everything and anything and wonder why there are penalties involved. Okay, let's see the airlines already ticketed your trip and now you want them to what???? Grow up!

I swear by Travelocity. They have never let me down. Never tried Expedia, which apparently is a good thing ... thanks so much for the heads-up!

Thank you so much for the warning, I have never been told to look out for them, but as a fellow traveller, I can't tell you how grateful I am. I was considering using them in the near future. Now...no way. Excellent write-up!

I tried to book my honeymoon through Expedia. BIG MISTAKE!! I had other options but ultimately chose them because the price seemed lower. Something happened during the online transaction and it never got booked. I tried to resolve the issue with "customer support," and they told me while waiting 20 minutes to speak to someone, the price of the trip went up. I decided not to book, but I had "authorization" holds on my credit card which kept me from booking another vacation. I'm currently on hold with them as I type, 24 hours later trying to have them release those holds. My bank says all they need to to is call to release the hold (I spoke to them as I was holding). The expedia rep came back 20 minutes later and said the bank wasn't answering. I had just spoken to them on the other line!! Meanwhile I still can't use my card because the holds are taking up most of my limit. Don't let this happen to you!! Use someone else.

have been using Expedia for years for booking my tickets! But the way I got treated today by the customer representative was totally annoying and disappointing. I feel totally deceived and I swear I would never use Expedia in future. Also I would propagate this information through forums about the treatment I got so that another person like me does not become a victim of you people.
I purchased a ticket for me and my wife. I canceled the complete ticket of my wife with the help of a customer representative. I was told I have a travel credit which can be used for future travel for an year -- the condition being that only my wife can use and also the same airline. Today when I contacted the customer representative, the way I got response showed as if you people have no records at all. They kept me waiting for hour to gather the information and ultimately told that I do not have any travel credit. I should have been sent an email regarding this. I was not even sent any email after ca

My wife and I were planning a wedding anniversary in Los Cabo. There are over 30 family members traveling with us.
I wanted to book the trip through Expedia but due to the inconsistent information provided by them, along with reading the enormous number of complaints and poor customer service experiences I decided to use our local travel agent. It cost us only a few dollars more but it was well worth the expense becasue we new what we wanted and the travel agent got us that and more.
Expedia is driving their business in the ground and people are learning they cannot trust Expedia in handling travel responsibility.
