Why You Should NEVER Remove Under Performing Articles from AC

Jan S
There has been talk on the Associated Content forums about writers wanting to remove their under performing articles from AC. I have also seen a few articles written to support that want. Those writers are obviously not aware that they would be cutting their own revenue source if they did that and here is why.

Articles often take several years before they start to bring in a steady flow of income for their writers. This is because the search engines have an algorithm in place that values older items on the internet above newer content. The people behind the search engines figure that most spam or junk websites come and go quickly but content that has been around for a few years is more valued, in the eyes of the search engines that is.

The older the article on AC, the more value is placed on it by the search engines. As it ages, it will slowly creep up the pages in the searches that people are performing. So two articles on AC that were written about the same subject will be weighed differently, the older one getting rated at a higher value. That older one will show up in searches higher on the page than the newer one.

If you take a look through your own list of articles on AC in your dashboard, you will notice that your older articles generally get more views than your newer ones. I am not talking about total views, but monthly views.

Don't cut your own revenue source by only leaving an article on AC for a few months or even a year, it takes longer to earn decent monthly PPV's from it.

Thanks for this tip. I was contemplating editing (i.e. deleting) some articles but I think I'll follow your advice and just leave them there.

I have had several articles go to several hundreds of hits a year after I published them. You just never know.

This is sound advice. Actually you never know when an article is going to suddenly get hit on anyhow. One I wrote in early August (fairly recent I know) but which had about 800 pv's in the first 2 days and then died, suddenly a week ago got between 800-950 page views a day for 6 days in a row. It's back to zero again now, but that's 5,000 page views I never expected. You just never know do you.

I agree. You never know when somethings going to bet a good backink, or become popular suddenly.
