Why You Should Never Stop Writing

Christian K. Martinez
There is something they always tell you about writing, and that is to never stop. There is a reason every published author will tell you to keep writing, and here's the secret.

It works.

You should always keep writing. Write and type and scribble away at everything you see. It doesn't matter so much what you write as long as you do write. In fact, it's often better to keep yourself open to different styles of writing.

I want to be a successful fiction writer, eventually a novelist. I've been published once, yet I try to do my best to write every kind of thing I can. Articles like this, reviews on books, join writing communities help edit the work of other's just write there isn't anything that substitutes for experience.

Join contests, write rules for games, just sit somewhere and scribble down a description. If writing is what you want to do, then you have to make it your passion and flick it into every aspect of your life. Keep a notebook with you at all times, sometimes even more than one.

When ever you have spare time just brainstorm, typing away. It doesn't matter what you write, or how good it is as long as you keep at it. You'll get better, there will be long stretches of time with no improvement interspersed with short bursts of creative ingenuity and skill.

Write. Write. Write. Then take a look at what you've written, see what you like about it and what you don't. Then get back to doing it again. Have a conversation with someone and then write it out again, try to get a flow for how things in the real world translate to paper. Never stop writing. Think of it like this, it's the best way I know how. You are a writer.

Writing is your life.

If you stop writing you will die.

So never stop.
