Why You Should Not Buy a Computer to Play Video Games

Mich Butler
I have heard several people ask which computer is the best for playing video games. True enough some video games on the computer are extremely fun and wonderfully addictive, however a computer is not designed for playing video games. If you are truly looking for something to play video games on it should actually be a home entertainment video game system such as the ones made by Sony and Nintendo. Many people would disagree with me on this matter but here are some reasons.

The first reason to remember is that the basic design of a computer is specifically aimed at doing work, not entertainment. The modern computer is set up much like a typewriter which makes it very difficult to play video games on. It is possible to get a controller for your computer but that never works out as expected. The Average computer game is set up to be played with the mouse and the keyboard. If you transform the button system onto a controller that you plug in. you will soon find out that movement and action are no where near as fluid as they would be on a home entertainment system.

Another reason is that the computer that is designed, at least in what it is capable of doing, for video games usually is twice the price of a video game system. One might say but you can use it for other things other then gaming. However that is not a good idea. If you are going to use a computer that you bought specifically for video games for another purpose, you will soon find yourself wasting time on at least one of the games you have downloaded onto your computer. A much better option is to get a cheap computer that does just about what you need it to do, and a video game system. Doing this will allow you to much easier distinguish between the time you set aside for relaxation, and the time you set aside for work.

The final reason to not get a computer designed for gaming is that the computer will be obsolete in a year. Where as a video game system can last for five years or more without being obsolete. Also a used video game system, with the exception of the original Playstation because the Playstation two can play the original games on it, will have a much better resale value. Once a video game system becomes old enough it starts to gain value, unlike a computer. It is especially true for the games that go along with the system. Computer games from the eighties are usually free at garage sales. Where as Games for the Original Nintendo Entertainment System can be worth more then twenty five dollars, the price depending on rarity.
