Why You Should Not Buy a Digital Camera (at Least Right Now)

Kenny Larson
So you dropped your camera in the water and you need a new one. Perhaps you feel dissatisfied with the picture quality of your pocket-sized camera and would like to step up to a bigger DSLR like the Canon Rebel or the Pentax Kx. With so many cameras to choose from which one do you buy? For now, the answer is none of them.

On September 21st, Photokina the largest photography equipment expo in the world will take place in Cologne, Germany. Happening every two years, camera manufacturers pull back the curtain and reveal their best new products for the world to see. Among the cameras rumored to be announced are the Olympus E-3 replacement, the E-5, and the Nikon D800, which will replace the legendary D700 camera. Canon is may also unveil a revolutionary new camera in their Powershot line.

So what if you already know the camera you want? The answer is to wait if you can. After new products are announced, merchants always drop the prices on old merchandise to make space in their inventories for new products. Prices can drop 25-50 percent after Photokina.

The impulse urge to buy a camera can be very strong. However, holding out can help save a significant amount of money which can be used to buy things like memory cards, photo bags, tripods and lenses; expenses that many people forget to include when buying a camera.
