Conditioner is like wax. It covers your hair, and if it is not allowed to wear off properly over time, it can build up on your hair, giving it a crinkly, dry, fiber-glass appearance. Do not condition your hair more than once a week if you do. It is better, however, to never condition, since it coats all parts of split ends, making it impossible for them to naturally fuse back together.
Your natural scalp oil from the top of your head is the healthiest thing for your hair. If you have been in the hospitable or been sick, and you have hair loss, the healthiest thing you can do for your hair is not to wash it, and to let your scalp oil heal it back to natural health. Here are some basic rules for hair care:
Shampoo once or twice a week, maximum. Shampoo, or soap, strips your hair and your scalp of those healthy oils. It's important to recognize that oily hair is caused by over-shampooing so that, in order to keep your hair properly covered in oil, more oil needs to be created. Cutting down to one or two shampoos a week will dramatically reduce the amount of oil output within two weeks. You'll have to deal with extra oil for a few days, but don't worry. It will not continue. In the meantime, follow the next step.
Brush your hair at least 7 or 8 times a day with a clean, natural bristled brush or a big toothed comb. Make sure you rinse out your brush once every day so that flakes of skin are not being brushed back into your hair tomorrow. Brushing thoroughly and frequently causes the oil on your scalp to be spread all the way down to the tips of your hair. This is the ONLY way that split ends can be fused together. Hair oil coating the ends of your hair can actually fix split ends, so cut your hair less, wash your hair less and brush your hair frequently.
