Why it is Not Worth Paying 300 Dollars a Night at the Villas of Grand Cypress Hotel

Mark Mielke
When I went to stay at the Villas of the Grand Cypress hotel, I thought that it would be a dream vacation. A cousin of mine stayed there and gave me a great story and said I absolutely had to stay there. I had extra money, so I booked the hotel for a week on my vacation. I thought it would be a great getaway from the craziness of my life. I was right. It was a getaway, but it was too much getaway. There was nothing to do! I spent the entire time bored. There isn't very much to do if you don't want to go golfing or attend a Disney event. I like golfing, but I didn't want to do for twelve hours a day, every day. I don't have my kids with me, so I am not going to attend any ridiculous Disney thing. Orlando itself is just filled with restaurants, so I didn't really want to leave the hotel and look around. There was NOTHING to do. It felt like I was just in a regular hotel, not the great one this was supposed to be.

Even without there being nothing to do, the hotel was not really great. It hasn't been changed since the 1980's so it didn't have a very modernized feel about it. Especially the bathrooms. The bathrooms were very old looking. The entire hotel, or at least the parts that I saw, was in desperate need of renovation. The rooms were dark and kind of had a dull sense about them. I usually like dark rooms, they help me sleep, but not when they are mixed with dull. Dull, dark rooms are very boring. I did not want boring on this vacation, I wanted relaxing. Dark and Dull rooms are not relaxing. There were times when I was reminded of the Bates' motel for some reason. To make matters worse, some parts of the hotel smelled funny. I can't really describe the smell, but I didn't like it. Being in a hotel that smells funny and has dark and dull rooms. Not my idea of a good time. And on top of all this, some of the hotel staff was a little rude. Although I can't really blame the hotel itself, I thought I would include that little piece of information, just to give you something to think about.

After I left the hotel, I researched it online and discovered that many of the problems I had experienced were other people's problems too. At least ten people complained about the dark rooms(although they neglected to add dull) and I think that one woman even commented on a damp smell. I wouldn't describe what I smelled as damp but at least I am not alone in my complaints.
