Why it Pays to Have Good Morals

Moral V. Immoral Which is Better?

Godfather89
When you hear someone say I follow a code and stick by it that is called living a life through principle(morals). When someone changes there responses and reactions to what they prefer it is called a life of preference(immoral).

Short the word Preference the word PREFER is there. People of preference prefer what they like to do and as we know we change so a life of preference changes also. However, a person of principle follows through with whatever happens to them win or lose because, in the end they believe they truly won. Principle is stable and unwavering it does not change. Usually people devoted to religion and have strong convictions about something never change what they believe and follow (supposed to follow) the power of principle. Usually people who are materialistic or believe that "god is dead" often follow with preference.

A traditional example would be these two guys John and Joe. Joe is religious and will never seek revenge on anyone. However, John is very materialistic and blinded by what is in front of him, everything he has he got through his own means of prefering to do something anyway he can.

One day Joe runs into a someone he really does not like because, that someone hurt him in the past and that person ask for his help. Now Joe does not seek revenge and will not say "NO!" Automatically instead he will help the person. Why because, in Joe's religion it is Principle to forgive however, do not forget and to love thy enemy. This person is "touched" by Joe's forgiveness and understanding that they become friends. Principle rewards you.

However, lets say John on the same day has the same circumstance with running into someone he really does not like for the same reason as Joe and asked for help. Now John is hates the guy and cannot stand him. So he would prefer to say no and because, John leads the life of preference he says to him "No!" Now his enemy is really ticked off at him ad they fight. John rewarded himself by getting revenge and now he is rewarded with revenge. For sake of not letting this go any worst lets end it right here because, as we all know a fight can get worst before it gets better.

So you see by using Principle; Principle rewards you. By using Preference you reward and indulge in only yourself.

Now my experience with both preference and principle is a strong one. One day at work one of my friends at work was really get on my bad side and I sought revenge on him(preference). So I embaressed him and made him look bad. So a few weeks latter he gets revenge on me(preference). I recognized what I had done wrong and sought to try and make amends(principle). He prefered to still seek revenge on me(preference). So what happened is when the time for him to take revenge on me I stood there a took it knowing that I could have defended myself and get revenge on him but I did not and took it(principle). He dished out double of what I put out(I did one thing to him so he does 2 things to me)(Preference). So I took both punishments and than forgave him and told know one except for those who knew that he was going to get back at me for what I did to him(principle). What happened 2 weeks latter he was fired and I told no one(Principle).

So you see it pays more so to do the right thing and follow through on principle than it does to follow through on preferences. It is best to be stable and stand strong in "bad storms." Than to bend with the will of the wind in that "storm." Another thing noticable about people of prefence is that they have eithier no rational thought or are very bad decision makers or both. People of principle have a strong mind and strong will.
