Why is My Pee a Funny Color?

What the Color of Your Urine Means

LDP
If you have just noticed that the color of your urine has changed you may or may not have a reason to panic. Often times you can rationalize why the color of your urine has change. Perhaps a new medication is the culprit or something you ate. You should not always assume that the change in the color of your pee is due to cancer. Your life is not an episode of House, even if your pee is blue!

Speaking of blue pee, why is your urine blue? If your urine has recently turned blue, there may be some very rational reasons for it to be that sky blue color. Before you panic, ask yourself these questions. Have I consumed anything recently with blue dye in it? Viagra may cause your urine to become a shade of blue, as can other blue-coated medications. Some other medications that cause your urine to turn blue are:

Triamterene is a diuretic and can cause your pee to turn blue as well as the antibiotic Rinsapin. Rinsapin is an antibiotic used for staph infections and can turn the color of your urine to blue or green. The above medications are only a sampling of the main meds that can cause your urine to be blue; other medications that are blue or contain blue dyes can cause your pee to change colors as well. Check the side effects of new medications that you are on if you notice your urine has turned blue.

The antibiotic, Rinsapin is also the culprit for green colored urine as well. This medication can cause your pee to be a blue-green color because it contains blue and green dyes. Again, check the side effects of any new medication you are on before you assume you have a disease from Mars. Diarrhea or bile issues can also cause green urine.

More often than not, the cause of odd colored urine is due to something you have recently ingested. So, think about the foods or drinks you have consumed recently. Did they contain any dyes? If so, they could be the cause of the abnormal urine colors.
