Why Peer Pressure Made it Pass High School

Have you ever been at a bar, enjoying yourself and you hear a group of frat boys in the background going, "Chug, chug, chug!" Did that guy want to do that? Or you are at work and you hear a bunch of co-workers put the new guy up to do a stupid office prank? Where they really comfortable doing that? Why does peer pressure still occur even after high school?

High school was an interesting experience for me. I learned so much about people and life. I also learned about peer pressure. I took a hit of my first join because of it, had me first sip of beer because of it, and even had my first relationship break-up because of it. Most of high school, I spent trying to fit in. I ran track for two reasons. I was actually fast and because my school had a female track team that we occasionally practiced with. I won a couple of big races and got a little fan club going. I felt like I was somebody.

I've also been in positions where people have offered me favors to do things I didn't want to do. I'm like 50% from the field as far as giving in. Sometime I put up with things in my life so I wouldn't ruffle feathers. So many times I have done things to make other people feel comfortable and I sacrificed my morals or comfortability. I would feel so bad after, feeling as if I had just been trampled over.

When people don't go along with a group, they become labeled. They are called squares, choirboys, and wall flowers. It really takes a person who is comfortable with themselves to go against the grain. To stand on your own two feet and say, "NO." Next time you get in a situation where people pressure you, just step back and think, "Do I want to be somebody's fool and entertainment, or do I want to respect myself in the morning?" You decide.
