Why People Go Crazy Over Sports

Todd Hicks

The reaction to plays made in sports is something that tends to be spontaneous. You sometimes go crazy about a play you just saw or heard. Either that or someone around you does. Why? There are different reasons for this. You will learn why people are so crazy about sports.

It is something to do. Watching a baseball, hockey, football or basketball game on TV or listening to it on the radio is a good way to avoid being bored.

Keeping up with sports is a great escape. It is a splendid way to put aside your troubles and worries for a few hours. You are able to unwind and cease dwelling on your personal problems as you dedicate your attention to your favorite team or athletes doing something that thrills you.

Following a sport you love can contribute to you having spectacular memories for the rest of your life. You are likely to be awed for a long time if you see a baseball outfielder on your local team make an outstanding diving catch that saves the game, you see a basketball player on your favorite team make a fantastic throw, you see a football player on your local team make a great tackle or score a crucial touchdown, etc. You also can recall an amazing game, especially if one of your favorite players participates in it. I will never forget the 2009 Wimbledon men's final. Andy Roddick, the underdog finalist and my favorite tennis player, started the match with a few aces in his opening service game and hit some serves between 130 and 141 miles per hour. He served big throughout the match, stood his ground and took Roger Federer, the man who has trounced him, to five sets. Alas, Federer won 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 16-14.

You can also draw inspiration from sports. You are likely to be inspired if you play a sport well, see great competitive play or witness a star do something dramatic.

Some games are full of drama. When the unexpected happens, you may get caught up in the moment and scream or jump up in excitement or disappointment.

You have learned why people are so crazy about sports.
