Why People Have Project Cars

Mich Butler
Why people have project cars is a personal question. It can also be a deep one. A project car can be not only to impress others, but also to find ones self. For example a car is like an extension of the body. I know, I know you have heard something like this before on some samurai movie.

The car can relieve the pain of every day life by taking your mind off the problems. If your car needs a fuel filter or an oil change you can switch your mind from your boss chewing you out to remembering you have to do that.

Also it can bring you closer to a friend or relative. Trust me I know what I am talking about in this one. I rarely did anything with my father until I hit the age of fifteen and saw a 1970's Volkswagen in the paper. It brought us together for the first time I think, What with him being a sports nut, and me not caring who won the super bowl and all. This is very true for a person that is using the old family car. When using that you have the experiences of your family imbedded in the car itself.

A project car can also bring you to a time that has passed. To a much simpler time, like the fifties. I know it sounds crazy, mostly because I was never in the fifties, and my car is from the 70's, but when I am riding down the road listening to the song I Get Around, I just get this wave of the past running through my mind. This is especially true for cars that are customized in the style that was popular around the time it was created. For example a hot rod is especially good when using an actual 1950's or older car. A Volkswagen is an exception to that rule though, due to the few changes it went through from its beginning in the 1930's to its end in 1979.

A project car can also just be a way to keep your kid off of drugs. Trust me when I say it works. Not only does it give a young adult something to do, but it probably will take all the money that the child would spend on drugs, and put it into the car to make it better. It is also a cool thing to do in high school.
