1. Able to stay calm
At the poker table, one of the key things you need to be aware of is your focus. The more focus you have, the better you'll be. Phil Ivey has more focus than anyone. He knows when to fold and when to make a big call.
In poker, you will lose pots all the time. Some will be bigger than others but when you a big one, people can go on "tilt". Tilt is where your emotions affect your play and you make stupid moves. Phil Ivey seems to be "tiltless" and unaffected. He will lose a one million dollar pot and either quit or keep playing, as if nothing happened.
2. Does not chase losses
Online, we can watch and track each player's results. When Ivey comes on and plays we all flourish to watch him. We expect him to always win but he doesn't. When Phil Ivey loses, he loses small. He nevers posts a big losing day, only small ones. He'll leave when he's down and stay when he's up. The way a poker player should play. This way he never freaks out and busts all his money, which happens to many players.
3. Bankroll management
As we can expect, Phil Ivey has an extraordinary amount of money. Of course, it wasn't always this way. Phil Ivey started out just like everyone else, at the penny tables. He's worked his way up the stakes winning tournaments and crushing cash games. Phil Ivey has won so much money he can play in any game he wants. He would like to play at much higher stakes but no one has enough money as him.
Phil Ivey is great for poker and doesn't use a set strategy. He plays his own game and continues to dominate the poker world. We all wish, to one day, play and beat him.
