I often see people who get over 100,000 in this game on a regular basis, and I often wonder, "how in the world are you able to score so high on this game all the time?!?!" I think I'm beginning to learn the secrets of the game. Beyond the fact that I just believe some people have nothing better to do than to play this game over and over again, either when they are at work or when they are at home, but I believe that one of the key tricks to mastering the game is simply committing to your moves. It's not about trying to make the best moves, so much as making the quickest moves.
For example, there are these things called "Power Gems" which is created when you connect four gems together. There's also what's called a "Powercube" which is when you are able to get five gems together. You would think that getting power gems and powercubes would get you more points, and to some extent that's true, but remember you're under a time constraint. It usually takes time to generate powercubes or power gems, so you usually lose time to try and get these powerful connections. Most of the time you just have to let the game make it happen more so than you making it happen yourself. You'll find yourself in a pit of frustration as you lose momentum and points.
The key to this game is to keep making matches. Go with your first instinct. I've found I get the most points when I just go with the flow and get points. If I see the gems that multiply the amount of points I can get with a connection, then I can go for it, but if it's not a part of the flow of the game then I'll wait until I can get to it. I'll keep in my head that it's there but I can't necessarily make it happen on my own. Play with the game, not so much against the game. You also get extra points for keeping up your speed within the game. Again, let these points just come to you. Don't worry about keeping them or losing them, you'll break momentum that way.
Let me warn you - it can be a very ADDICTIVE game!!! First of all, it's only 60 seconds long as I mentioned earlier. You can sit up at work and play five times and have only lost about five or six minutes. Don't let it be a break or lunch, you could easily play 20 times and lose track of time! It's a great game to try a few times, and I recommend that everyone that has a Facebook account, or whatever other medium you have for playing Bejeweled Blitz to try it.
My goal is to get 200,000 points one of these days. The closest I've gotten is 150,000 so far. I am looking forward to the day when I can eclipse that benchmark! Until then, game on...

Post a CommentI haven't been playing Bejeweled Blitz for very long but I do get regular high scores. The highest being 389,000. I have found that if you can keep the entire board in motion by moving back and forth and up and down whenever you can is the easiest way to get consistantly high scores. If you make moves really fast the board goes all gold and the voice says "Incredible Speed". It is a great past time when there is no one online. Love it.
You should play the beta version. The graphics are more arcade-like and in my opinion you have a chance of getting more points given the new rules that are in play. I have an article that talks about the beta version, but the actual link to the game is at http://apps.facebook.com/bejeweledblitz/beta.php. Keep in mind there are still quirks to be worked out, but it's definitely playable.
Great synopsis of the game, Tim. I've reached 100,000 a few times, but not consistently like I see others do (she types, as she heads to the Bejeweled Blitz tab on her screen right now).
