Why You Should Be a Proud Content Writer

Sass Ashe
You may have seen some articles or blog posts around the web about a little thing called content mill writing. Essentially journalists and print freelance writers feel that sites such as Demand Media, and others are nothing more than content mills. The question is, why is that a bad thing?

To understand what a content mill is and what they are looking for is the first step in making a living as a content writer. Also it is important to realize that you have no need to be embarrassed or feel any shame for writing web content for pay. You aren't doing anything wrong and if no one was looking for the content that content mills produce, they wouldn't be able to be such huge successful companies, and they sure wouldn't pay you to write it.

Web content, produced by content writers, consists of articles that are designed to be found by search engines and provide an answer to something an internet user is searching for. How many times have you wanted to know what the best way to clean something, and found the answer online? More than likely the answer you sought was found because of a content mill.

To make a living as a content writer may seem like a simple matter of writing simple easy to read instructions or information. In fact some of the titles, such as one I wrote about how to replace a garbage can actually require a lot of thought and imagination to turn a simple one sentence answer into a full article that offers suggestions that the reader may not consider unless they read the article.

Content writers have to understand how the search engines, SEO, and LSI work together. They have to produce articles that are not stilted and stuffed with keywords while making sure that the keywords are used enough and don't disrupt the flow of the article. Content writers work hard, day in and day out to write these articles that make your life easier.

Content mills are here, they are successful and the people who write the content are collecting paychecks for their effort. Does anyone really believe that being paid to write a short article is a bad thing? The reality is that many of those content writers have goals and plans that go far beyond writing web content, and the time that they spend writing that content allows them to pay their bills while working on their novels, or querying magazines.

Content mills and content writers are filling a need. If there was no need for this sort of content on the web, then these companies wouldn't be able to do what they do. If you can come up with one good reason not to write web content, and get paid for your effort I'll be surprised. I not only write for a few different content sites, I also use my real name and I have no shame about what I do. Sure I've written some titles that I find ridiculous, but the money that I got for writing them more than made up for the indignity of needing to write them.

How many people whole heartedly believe in everything that they do for their job? Not many. So content writers aren't any different than any other worker trying to make ends meet by doing what needs to be done to earn money.

Nice Article! Looking at the link you are responding to, I just wondering if someone or a group (of someone's) disturbed about the "Democratization of News & Information." But then again, I'm only a "Content Mill" Worker so this is probably higher level thinking for me.......never mind.....

I am a "content mill" contributor and darn proud of it. I hate that we are not considered true writers. I produce content (articles, blogs, vlogs) so that people may benefit from my experience. As much as I have benefited from others' when I have a query and search it out via the net.

I am proud, I will continue, and I thank you for sharing this truth with the world. :)

Thanks also to Patrice for linking it so that I may see it on FB. Ah the power of social media too :)
