Why You Should Quit Smoking and How

No matter how long you have been smoking, you should stop (even though it is difficult to do so) as soon as you can so you can live a happier and healthier life. Smoking is not only detrimental to the smoker's health but to the people around them ie passive smokers as they breathe what you smoke. Many people start smoking at a younger age. The reasons as to why young people start smoking are many. Some start to be cool and to feel like they belong to a group. Others start because they want to experience smoking themselves. Many of the baby boomers didn't have the education we do now that shows how smoking is bad for their health. Fortunately these days, there are commercials on television that show how smoking ruins your health. Smoking is an addiction that is hard to get away from but it can be done.

Smoking can cause many problems to your health. Smoking can cause deadly diseases such cancer (ie lung cancer) as well as heart diseases. Smoking can also increase cholesterol which can lead to the hardening of the arteries which can cause a stroke.

Smoking or passive smoking also causes bronchiolitis which may be contagious. The viral infection affects the airway which in turn affects breathing. Bronchiolitis affects the respiratory syncytial which causes inflammation. Once the inflammation builds up it blocks the airway. This causes you to breathe harder. Smoking also causes stained teeth, bad breath, smelly clothes and furniture. People who smoke also seem to get the cold and the flu more often than non smokers. Smokers also cough more and louder much to the annoyance of the people around them. Also you get addicted on nicotine because of the chemicals in the tobacco and then it becomes an expensive habit as you purchase more cigarettes as you increase the number of cigarettes you smoke each day to get your quick fix.

Once you are addicted to smoking it will be difficult to quit. You will need to be serious about quitting. This requires will power. You may need to seek the advice of a medical practitioner to advise you on the best way to quit. You can also try external methods such as nicotine patches. You may also join a support group in your local area that will help and encourage you to quit smoking within a comfortable environment with people who are in the same situation as you are and who are also eager to quit smoking.
