Why so Much? a Look at the Economy Today

Why is There so Much Distress in the World Today?

Nicholas Ward
Why so much? an article about the current economic turmoil we are faced with today. The name "Why so much?" Was brought on by the onset of the platoon of thoughts running through my brain while shopping. "Why so much?" was properly followed by the thought of what things use to cost. With this current recession you are left asking again, the questions that you have asked so many times before "Why so much?"

The cost of gas continues to inflate while consumers like you and me are left asking "Why so much" again and again without answer. While BP complains about profit losses and continues to leave the cleanup of their latest mess up to government and non profit organizations, you have to ask the BP CEO "Why so much?" Why so much oil? Did you really need that much profit? Was the demand really so high that you had to drill next to a gas vein in the earths crust? Was your greed so much that you had to put all those lives at risk? Why so much indeed.

As BPs stocks continue to plummet and the economy takes a turn for the worst the government is left asking "Why so much?" With todays technological advancements we don't need all that oil. With our current technology cars could turn one gallon of Gasoline (petroleum a by product of oil) into three hundred miles. But when you ask "Why so much?" your questions fall on deaf ears. Those in power have fallen to the disease some may call greed.

Why so much greed? Because our economy promotes greed it promotes those who think they are better then others. Why so much promotion for those who are undeserving? That is a question better left for those in charge of our government. While banks continue to receive money that should be given to those more desperate. Small business owners and entrepreneurs are left asking "Why so much?" This disease continues to spread like wild fire all throughout the united states and will likely continue to do so for some time.

The young entrepreneur has no choice but to ask "Why so much?" When he sees how much he has to pay out just to get into business. Banks refuse to make the loans required for new business to bloom and the government hands money to those already of status. "Why so much?" The advancement of our society may depend on a status quo but I have to ask "Why so much?" Why do you need so much money what could you possibly desire that costs so much aren't you left feeling hollow?

Despite our current economic turmoil the president would have us pay more to health agencies for medical coverage many of us don't even need. "Why so much?" As it stands now in many states you already give the government thirty percent of your income. Think about it ten percent for federal, five percent Social Security which is now bankrupted BTW, and another five percent goes into a Medicare pool, where most of us won't see it till we are dead, because the age limit to receive the benefits we paid for continues to rise. Add to that the common eight to ten percent sales tax, and the one percent property tax, and you begin to realize whats happening to us.

Why so much? I ask this to you all do you really need so much? There are many who barely scrape by to make a living on a slaves pittance while others continue to grow, and profit off their misfortune. While the government rewards those who would enslave us with lower tax brackets and bail outs. There needs to be a change and those currently in charge need to fail, fall, step aside, and let the new rise up to take their place.

  • Life today causes us to constantly ask, why so much?
  • While we may have enough to get by many have far more.
  • Governments are simply another form of business and caring about us isn't good business.
While tobacco companies only source of revenue is killing Americans daily, the government doesn't place mandates on what chemicals can be used in cigarettes nor does it ban usage completely.
