Below is a list of a few reasons people are still driving SUVs
Need more space
Many SUV owners purchased an SUV because a sedan or truck didn't have enough room for their needs. These people needed more space to put their sports equipment, equipment for some of their hobbies, or they needed more room for people.
Many families with several kids choose an SUV instead of a minivan for the space and because it is more stylish than a minivan. Proof of this trend is reflected in the number of car manufactures that are not making vans anymore.
SUVs sit up higher
SUV owners enjoy riding in a car that sits up higher. SUV owners enjoy this benefit because they are able to see the road better. Several of these SUV owners would never go back to riding in a car that sits low to the ground.
But many people that are against SUVs think that some of these cars sit too high off the ground and could roll over in an accident. Every SUV doesn't roll over in an accident because there is technology already in these cars that prevents it from happening. But many car manufactures are aware of a potential rollover in some of their SUVs and they are working to stop that from happening.
Need it to haul things
SUVs can be useful for people that need to haul a trailer, boat, or anything else that needs to be towed. And people that don't want a truck but need the space so they can use it to move or to transport things they need for their business or job.
Feel safer in an SUV
People who own an SUV feel safer in them because they are bigger and they have better visibility of the road.
Useful during winter season
Some people who live in an area that receives a lot of snow during the winter believe an SUV is able to handle the snow better than other vehicles. Many people use SUVs to drive through the snow because SUVs that have four-wheel or all-wheel drive systems will stop them from getting stuck in the snow.
Several people that are still driving SUVs have a legitimate reason to continue to drive them despite the high gas prices. Whether these SUV owners need them for space or to haul things, they are not going to give up their SUVs because compared to other types of cars an SUV is more useful for them.

Post a CommentThank you for writing this article. I totally agree with you. There are some mid sized SUV's that just make so much more sense in terms of usability than mini vans or station wagons that people should not be guilted into thinking they are destroying the planet for owning them. You hit the nail on the head.
