Why Spot Reducing While Exercising Doesn't Work

Everyone has problem areas, even those of us who have achieved our ideal body shape. Maybe it's flabby arms, love handles, sagging skin, or your hips. This leaves you wide open to a market that is offering all sorts of different gadgets and machines that claim to tone different parts of your body.

The market these days misinforms the public of the what benefits can be expected from their products. The fact is there are no revolutionary results.

1. You have to eat a healthy diet. If you want to get rid of your undesireable body fat then you have eat the right kinds of healthy foods. Your diet is the main culprit for those fats you want to get rid of.

So no matter how many gadgets or machines you buy if your diet is rich in junkfood, sweets and fatty foods, you are not going to be able to change your body.

2. Spot reduction is a myth

It is unhealthy for people to believe that just by purchasing a gadget or product that you can miraculously change some problem part of your body. Most of these gadgets and machines target a specific body part such as your abs, or thighs for example and they ignore the other parts of your body.

In any endeavor to get trim and healthy, you must understand and be on top of your personal physiology. You should understand what it takes to achieve your ideal body image. So if you want to have buns of steel then you need to understand what it takes to get them.

There are those out there, even some who claim to be experts in fitness that claim you can just exercise that one part of your body that you want to change, such as your buns as in the previous example. This will not work, you cannot just exercise that one body area and see dramatic changes. You will not be able to achieve your fitness goals by just concentrating on one body part. You have to view the body as a whole.

Fat is not going to come off just because you use a gadget or machine, especially if you don't make other changes such as in your diet. Also, you need to understand that your body shape is also determined by your genetics.

In order to get six-pack abs or buns of steel you are going to need to alter your diet and the foods you eat, and exercise your whole body. Doing complete exercise routines that include all parts of the body, as well as changing your diet to a more healthy one will make being able to change your body shape easier than by just targeting one body area without taking the other stuff into account.

Once you have changed your diet, and added a complete exercise routine to your life, then you can consider adding exercises that are designed for one particular area of your body.

3. There is no such thing as a short cut when it comes to changing your body shape.

There are no miracle potions, diets or pills, these will just lead you to a dead end in the long run. If you want a healthy body you are going to have to work for it.

We live in a world where everything moves very fast and many people are looking for a fast way to change their body shape, but the fact is the body is natural and you have to follow your body's natural rhythyms. This means if you want to change your body shape you will need to alter your diet and your exercise routine if you want to succeed at this goal.

4. You have to commit to a healthy diet and a regular exercise routine in order to change your body shape.

Your dedication to getting a healthy body shape has to be part of a life long committment to eating healthy and exercising your whole body on a regular basis. If you abuse your body by eating unhealthy foods and not exercising, then you will gain weight and your body shape will not change, but will instead become heavier. You have to take care of your body on a daily basis.

This is why spot reduction is a myth. There is no quick fix to changing your body shape. So if you are serious about getting healthy and changing your body shape then you will need to make healthy changes to your diet and start a regular exercise program. It's also important to improve your mental outlook on life. If you slip up and have eat two candy bars one day, or forget to exercise for a couple of days, don't beat yourself up. Instead rather than seeing this as a failure, get back on the horse so to speak and keep working towards good health and a beautiful body shape.
