The grand Superbowl has an interesting, almost cult-like, following - and many of those followers are non-football fans! There's so many different aspects to Superbowl, including cheerleading, half-time entertainment, and - of course - the fabulous commercials, which means people have differing reasons for tuning in, thus attracting a large number of viewers who may not, ordinarily, take in a football game.
We should also consider those whose motto is to party at every opportunity possible! There are so many people that have money to burn, and are looking for grand entertainment to burn it on! Superbowl is certainly a time when large amounts of money can come into play, especially if tickets to the game are on the table - along with airline tickets to the host city, and a hotel stay/rental car, etc (ditto if the 'keeping up with the Jones' syndrome comes into play, and one is trying to out-do a friend/neighbor/associate with all the latest 'Superbowl' must haves!).
With all of these considerations, it only makes sense that advertisers and networks alike would find Superbowl advertising segments to be of exceptionally high value! They know they can count on the fact that an incredible number of people far and wide will be sitting (or standing) around debating the game and/or commercials - and that these commercials will be 'stuck in their heads', guaranteeing lively banter over said commercials for some time - possibly all year, and certainly around the time of the following Superbowl as people reflect on the preceding year's/years commercials.
When it comes right down to it, commercials are generally viewed as boring - certainly not something we want to rush home to watch (unless it's your job to watch commercials, or if you happen to deviate from the norm), or to have to fast-forward through after having taped a favorite show! In contrast, the Superbowl commercials are brilliant, cream-of-the-crop gems - full of excitement/entertainment/special effects/adventure/big names - you name it! Some of these commercials have so much entertainment value that it can be like watching a really short movie!
So, take this opportunity to invite some friends/family over to your abode for this 'once-a-year' Superbowl extravaganza - and be prepared to be entertained in one way or another!

Post a CommentThe ads usually are pretty good.
Recent Superbowl commercials have not been as good as some from previous years. Some just have left me scratching my head wondering why the advertiser paid so much for THAT?!?! Good article.
Gotta have those commercials, sometimes they are better than the game itself!!!!!!!!!!!
