Why Susan Boyle Has Sold so Many Albums?

MimiRose
The recent success of Susan Boyle's debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, in the U.S. has been record breaking and has given the music industry hope.

Boyle's album sold 701,000 in the first week and was number 1 on the Billboard charts. Since the albums debut it has sold over 1.5 million, achieved the highest first week sales in 2009, and it has been the largest debut for a female artist on the Billboard 200. Boyle's album was able to quickly surpass the sales of Rihanna and American Idol's Adam Lambert who both sold fewer than 200,000 in the first week. The success of Susan Boyle's album has shown the music industry that a great unknown singer that wasn't the prettiest person was able to outsell many of the singers that have been in the music industry for several years.

This has left many people wondering how she has been able to do this. Today's artists would love to sell the number of records Boyle has been able to sell in her first week but will never be able to reach that level because many of them are not very good singers and are bad live performers. Several artists today are unable to create an album without the use of Auto-tune (software that corrects a singer's pitch), publicity stunts, or some type of sex appeal. Because of these factors Susan Boyle and other talented artists have been able to capitalize on the lack of talent that is plaguing the music industry.

One of the main reasons Boyle's album has been received so well by the public is because since her first appearance on the TV show "Britain's Got Talent" she has proven she is a great singer. Unlike artists today, she didn't need to be the most beautiful woman or to use a publicity stunt. The only thing she needed was her angelic voice.

The success of Boyle's album could potentially have a positive affect on the music industry. One of the positive affects it could have is the music industry could start supporting artists or looking for artists that are great singers without the use of Auto-tune. Fans that have already purchased Boyle's album are proving to the music industry that many music lovers are still interested in supporting singers that make good quality music.

Boyle's unexpected performance on "Britain's Got Talent" last April has given her worldwide attention and success. Despite Boyle's humble beginnings, the 48 year old has already proven that your dreams can come true later in life.

Glad she is doing well. However, I don't care for her music.

Good topic. Maybe her "uniqueness" has contributed to her success. Would a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Susan Boyle catch on as quickly as she has?

I think it is because she is more like "everyman"...good post!

Yes, I think she is so appealing to the masses because she is so ordinary and had her dream come true! It's a fairytale we all wish could happen to us!

I think she's a true success story, someone with no particular manufactured glamour but just who she is - and when she sings, magic happens!
