The key should also be kept in a secure spot where children will not find it. A secure location would be a safe or lock box. Gun safety is a necessity. The safety lock on the gun should always be on to prevent it from accidentally firing.

Children need to learn early that guns are dangerous instruments. They should know they should never play with them. Children do not understand or realize there are consequences for everything we do in life. Playing with guns is dangerous, and children should not participate in any pastime that involves guns or any weapons of any kind.

Children should never be left unattended while there is a gun in the house. There are too many accidents that occur with firearms and children. Children are curious about how things work, and if they find a gun, they are curious enough to play with the weapon. The gun should never be loaded. If guns are in the house, parents need to teach children not to play with or even touch them. They can kill. Families can be destroyed in the blink of an eye from the use of a gun.
