Why You Should Think About Sending Your Toddler to Preschool

The Importance of Preschool

Jennifer Foote
Are you the parent of a toddler? If you are, you may be wondering about preschool. Most preschools, in the United States, start accepting children into their programs when they are about three or four years of age. It has always been recommended that children attend preschool, but it is your decision to make, as preschool is optional. This may leave you wondering whether or not you should send your child to preschool.

The decision as to whether or not you want to send your child to preschool is yours to make, but you should know that there are a number of benefits to doing so. Those benefits are just a few of the many reasons why many experts claim that preschool is important. If you are wondering exactly what the many benefits of sending your toddler to preschool are, you will want to continue reading on.

One of the most important benefits of preschool is the social interaction. Although a large number of toddlers get social interaction from daycare, not all do. There are a large number of toddlers who are now spending their days at home with their parents or with other family members, as it is often cheaper than sending children to daycare. That is why preschool is needed. It is advised that all parents at least think about sending their toddlers to preschool, but those whose children have limited social interaction with other children are seriously advised to consider it.

The rules that most preschools have are another one of the many benefits to attending preschool. Preschool, like most elementary schools, have rules that need to be followed or guidelines. For instance, children are required to play well with others, sit in their seats during learning, and show teachers respect. Although most children are good at doing this, it can be fairly difficult for a three or a four year old to follow directions, especially the directions of a stranger. Most preschools know this; therefore, many tend to work on rule following with their students in increments, which makes it easier for more children to learn. If you think that your children may have a hard time waiting in line for lunch or following the instructions of their kindergarten teacher, you may want to think about sending your child to preschool.

The educational learning is another benefit of preschool. When it comes to education and learning, it is important to remember that not all preschools are the same. If you are looking for your child to walk away from preschool with more knowledge, you may want to examine the learning materials that will be taught and the amount of time that will be spent on those materials. While different elementary schools vary, there are many schools that now expect their students to be working on reading and writing. If your child is three or four and doesn't already know some of their colors or shapes, it may be best to either start working with them at home or send them to preschool.

The above mentioned benefits are just a few of the many that exist. As you can see from being outlined above, preschool is important. However, important as many say that preschool is, the decision as to whether or not you want to send your child is yours to make.

My daughter definitely needs the social interaction. She is very outgoing and needs to be around other kids, not with just me all day. Another great article
