Why Tom Cruise Doesn't Matter
An Editorial About Tom Cruise, Scientology and Why People Need to Grow Up
It may actually be the case that Scientology teaches about Xenu the galactic overlord. The cosmology of other religions are as equally scientifically unfounded. Religions, by their nature, teach dogmas which must be accepted by faith. Beliefs which can only be accepted by faith cannot be refuted, or as W.B Yeats wrote, "You can refute Hegel, but not the Song of Sixpence". In short, dogma is believed or not believed. None of it is provable.
As far as the alleged homosexuality of Tom Cruise and John Travolta, they may be gay, they may not, but it is within the right of anyone to seek spiritual counseling to attempt to change the fact, regardless of how ineffective such techniques may be.
Although the creators of "South Park" renewed interest in the criticism of the Church of Scientology the discussion remains focused on the supposed homosexuality of two men and a science fiction based cosmology. Clouding the concerns of many critics.
Remember Operation Clambake? It is still there still run by the founder but not without a great deal of defending himself against the Church of Scientology. Recently Mr. Heldal-Lund celebrated the 10th anniversary of his site in Stavenger Norway with the debut of a film about Scientology. The film is archived for download here and has been reviewed here.
Remember Lisa McPherson ? Many people have never heard of her, but in critics' circles this was a huge issue. The story goes that Ms. McPherson was taken from a hospital by church members and held at the Fort Harrison Hotel against her will. I would imagine so. When she was pronounced dead she weighed 108 pounds. She was 5'9".
Remember the Jone's Town mass suicides? That resulted in the creation of the Cult Awareness Network. Where is the Cult Awareness Network now? Well it seems that they began to receive a number of contacts from parents and family of members of the Church of Scientology. The Cult Awareness Network was sued into nonexistence by the Church of Scientology. There still is a Cult Awareness Network, however, it is now run by the Church of Scientology.
Remember Operation Snowwhite? Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard was still alive then living on a boat and named as an unindicted co-conspirator. According to WikiPedia, "FBI raids on Scientology properties in 1977 not only turned up documentation of the group's illegal activities against the United States government, but also illegal activities against other perceived enemies of Scientology, such as "Operation Freakout", a conspiracy to frame author Paulette Cooper on false bomb threat charges, and conspiracies to frame Gabe Cazares, mayor of Clearwater, Florida , on false hit and run charges."
Eleven people were sent to prison. All of them top ranking Scientologists, including L. Ron Hubbard's wife at the time Mary Sue Hubbard.
While it may be fun to laugh about Xenu, virgin birth, flying horses, Shiva dancing, and Moses coming down from the mountain, these pieces of dogma aren't even worth arguing about. They have no basis in fact and cannot be proved. Out of respect for those that choose to believe in a religion I never mention my thoughts about them.
Speculation about someones sexuality may be fun on a sophomoric level, but when push comes to shove, the issue of Tom Cruise's and John Travolta's sexuality, what or what not it may be, and what they may or may not be doing about it is really their own damn business. Come on people, grow up.

Hi Sparky Sparky. I agree 100% that one's sexual choices and orientation are his or her bussiness. However, do you know what Scientology publishes about homosexuality? And about "degraded beings"? WE are mature anough to know that religion and sexuality are private rights and nobody else's bussiness... but are Sciencology officials that mature?
P.S. The posts just preceeding mine are... well... strang. And unsigned! (those "named" 14/04/2007 to 20/04/2007).
Are you telling me that after members of scientology spam these boards over and over again that NO one wants to discuss this issue? Come on guys. Sparky won't bite. Talk to us.
OOOH nice shot Melissa, and I get the joke. ;-) But I wonder Melissa have you ever seen the Lisa McPherson autopsy photos? Here they are, http://www.lisamcpherson.org/lisapics.htm. This is the reason Tom Cruise and John Travolta don't matter. Let them be gay or not gay and happy.
Well James it is obvious that you are homophobic and using that as an excuse to be critical of scientology. As they have stated neither Tom Cruise nor John Travolta are gay. However, if you want to attack scientology you are more than welcome. I won't delete your comment just because you are obviously a religious bigot.
Hi James, thats the best you can do? A quick hit and run that smacks of a scientology hit? Why not tell us why you think this was bad? I liked it myself.
What a pathetic article.
Well Sparky, It seems like either everyone either agrees with you or knows scientology is wrong and is afraid to post. I can see where scientology members would have a hard time defending "snow white" or the fair game stuff. Freedom of Religion is not freedom to commit crimes and they need to learn this. If everyone wants to see the members of scientology in action there are some very telling and scary video's on xenutv.com . Why not take a look at them and post here what you think?
Great Article, I think you are right that the space stuff and gay story line doesn't mean much. Everyone is free to believe whatever they wish and choose whoever they wish to spend time with. The only thing about the xenu stuff that I don't like is they are not upfront with it to members. But most this stuff that hits the press takes so much space that the real problems with scientology are never seen. And there are some very real problems that people need to learn about. I love that you put the links in. I just hope people take the time to look at them.
"There are only two answers for the handling of people from 2.0 down on the Tone Scale, neither one of which has anything to do with reasoning with them or listening to their justification of their acts. The first is to raise them on the Tone Scale by un-enturbulating some of their theta by any one of the three valid processes. The other is to dispose of them quietly and without sorrow."
