Why the Undertaker Should Not Face Triple H at Wrestlemania Again: Fan's Opinion

Rodney Southern
As a huge WWE wrestling fan, I have seen plenty of things that made no sense over the years. The very nature of the business guarantees that no two people will feel exactly the same about where the story-lines go from week to week. At this time of year, it is even more intense due to Wrestlemania on April 1 in Miami. The matches for Wrestlemania XXVIII will be determined over the next several weeks leading up to the event. Every fan wants the best possible lineup to make the event special.

The biggest event annually revolves around who the Undertaker will face and whether they can finally break his winning streak of 19 in a row. This year, it looks like they are going with a repeat from 2011 with another feud between Taker and Triple H. On Monday Night Raw, Undertaker returned and insinuated that Triple H would be his opponent at the big event. I think this is a huge mistake for a number of reasons.

Undertaker versus Triple H was not that good at Wrestlemania XXVII

Why repeat a match that was average at best the first time around? Undertaker and Triple H both are aging and are bound to show it against one another. Both of these guys are two of my favorites, but they were not all that good together in my view. The dynamic is simply not there when they clash.

Undertaker needs someone new to keep the streak fresh

Part of what makes this annual match work is the fact that it is so diverse. Over the years, Taker has fought a who's who of the WWE universe, both past and present. When you repeat the same match from the year prior, it really puts the streak on the back burner as far as importance.

Triple H needs a farewell Wrestlemania match of his own

Both Triple H and Undertaker both are nearly ready to hang up the boots, and both deserve to have their own send offs. Like Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels and others before them, Triple H should have his own send off. The Undertaker will be center stage in a match that features his streak, so it would not be a good setup for a retirement match for Triple H. The Undertaker is rumored to be hanging on to get number 20, and then possibly walk away. He should be allowed that against an opponent that will not take away from the accomplishment.

I like the idea of a rematch. I enjoyed the match last year. It was not as pure as the match with HBK but it was more physical. Not a fan of the direction of the stipulations and gimmicks surrounding the two this year. Orton or Jericho I think would be a good retirement match for HHH, maybe even Rhodes in the future.
