Cleaner and Better GUI - Apparently, the new operating system promises a lighter and yet more graphic interface. It's a smoother experience and looks more refined compared to previous operating systems. A special feature is that documents can be viewed without having to open them because the filename and a summarized view of the document is presented as a graphical thumbnail.
Better Security - Although there is no such thing as a 100% bug-free and safe computer system, Windows Vistas makes it easier for users to navigate through security settings so that it is easier to pick out preferences for system safety. It is no longer as technical as it used to be in previous operating systems.
Better Photo Gallery - Older versions of the Windows OS would only allow one to see what pictures could be found inside folders without having to open them up. In Vista, users will now be able to edit pictures right from the Explorer file browser. This means that a user who wants to make simple changes to a picture can now do so without having to open up a heavy editing program just to do so.
Start Menu Search Function - Users now have the ability to search directly from the Start Menu of Windows Vista. In previous versions of the operating system, one had to open up a search function which opened up a browser and that was where all search abilities would take place. Vista now makes it easier for the user to find files without having to open so many windows.
Better Wireless Networking - Windows XP just wasn't prepared well enough for wireless networking perhaps because it was released before the rise of Wifi. Windows Vistas fixes all these issues and provides an easier way to connect your PC or laptop wirelessly. It includes a one-stop diagnostics area where you can take care of all your wireless connection needs. Better yet, it's built into the operating system so you don't need to download anything extra.
With all these new features being promised by Microsoft, it also does come with a price as far as hardware is concerned. The system that you currently use to run Windows XP, for example, will not be good enough for Windows Vista. A faster CPU will be required and a whole lot of RAM as well. You may also have to consider upgrading everything from drivers to peripherals and cards for video and sound. Basically, you will be investing in a whole new system just to catch up with the operating system. Windows Vista will also mean that you will need to spend a little more money just to use it. It will cost you about $200 dollars if not more for the upgrade.
There are many advantages to using the new operating system from Microsoft and it seems that all Windows users will be headed towards Vista in the future. For those who want to make the change quickly, at least you know now what to expect in terms of basic features.
