Why Vegetarianism is Good for You

Emma Jacobs
A diet of vegetables alone is well known to be good for losing and then maintaining a healthy weight. Vegetables, fruit, and other natural and non-animal food products are generally low in fat and high in fiber and can actively help with the detoxification of the body.

The fiber content can also be a beneficial factor in the aid of weight loss, as does the fact that vegetables have virtually no harmful fats in them. Food which is rich in detoxifying agents, are essential for removing the toxins which are ever and increasingly present in our bodies.

Fresh fruit and vegetables, cereals, nuts, whole grains and pulses, provide a well balanced nutritional content and help to maintain a stable sugar level. It is not surprising to find that people who are on a vegetarian diet are generally far more energetic than those who are not.

They seem to suffer less with minor complaints and are generally healthier than meat-eaters because fruit and vegetables are full of vitamins which can help to ward off illnesses.

Keeping to a vegetarian diet could contribute significantly to maintaining the environment and reaching climatic targets. Food animals, such as pigs for example, do create an awful lot of waste which the farms then have to try and dispose of, as well as the enormous amounts of energy it takes to keep and breed these animals.

It would be in the interest of the environment to convert land which is currently used for keeping and breeding livestock, into 'carbon absorbing' forests which will help reduce the carbon dioxide which is in the atmosphere.

It makes sense for anyone who not only wishes to be healthy but also to save money, in the long term, to consider a vegetarian diet. This would quite simply involve eating plenty of vegetables, fruit, nuts, and, pulses in addition to dairy products, eggs, and fish.

A healthy vegetarian diet can offer natural protection from heart disease with the added bonus of contributing to the reduction of global warming in the environment. A step further again, and becoming a vegan has the additional benefit of a great reduction of saturated fats and cholesterol from the dairy products which vegetarians still eat.

Vegetarians generally seem to be healthier and live longer than those people who eat meat. They also have an immune system which seems to function more effectively to help fight diseases. Statistics show that this information has already helped to bring about positive changes in lifestyles and diet habits of people today.

Healthy vegetarian diets have become the norm for many people today. Particularly, those who believe and actively want to play their part, in protecting the fragile environment of the earth, always advocate vegetarian diet.
