Why Virginia Beach Should Be Voted America's Top Beach

LaQuisha Hall
Virginia Beach, Virginia harbors one its greatest resources of wealth and entertainment, the actual beach. The beach is a highly sought vacation experience because of its warm water and its location in the northern area of the United States. It is a vacation area that closely resembles the game of Monopoly: the properties surrounding the game board is the name of the streets leading up to the Boardwalk, the walking area parallel to the beach. Virginia Beach should be voted America's top beach because it is family oriented, has great restaurants and delivers pleasing entertainment and sights.

A Family Oriented Beach

While traveling the streets of Virginia Beach, you will find many families either traveling by walking, trolley or automobile. However, family or individual bicycles seem to be the most popular, fun way families travel the boardwalk. Both types of bikes can be utilized along the boardwalk in a specific path created for those riding bikes. Family bikes can be purchased for a 4-8 person family. With an overhead canopy, the family bikes have pedals for each person riding. Bikes rental shops, directly underneath vacation homes, are more expensive than the shops along Atlantic Avenue.

Virginia Beach has small playgrounds in the sand along the beach. This is an area where the kids can be led in activities with their parents, especially if the parents are weary of allowing their child to play in the waves of the water. In addition to the playgrounds, there are also sandboxes on the boardwalk.

Virginia Beach fosters an atmosphere of respect for children and adults, with its many signs posted along Atlantic Avenue that suggest no cursing from visitors. These small, circle signs are outlined in red with a red slash over three symbols and two exclamation marks. This policy is heavily enforced by the police, who will fine a violator on the spot for using expletives openly.

Great Restaurants

Many restaurants along the Oceanfront offer stunning views of Virginia Beach. While there are many to choose from, specific locations are immediately recommended by frequent visitors and the concierges of vacation homes.

With the motto "one good thing leads to another," Mahi Mah's Seafood Restaurant and Sushi Saloon, was suggested with a coupon to timeshare visitor Mardis Hall.

"I visited this restaurant on my birthday and was pleased with the amount of food and the dash of elegance attached each dish. The atmosphere itself was extremely relaxing," said Hall.

Mahi Mah's restaurant offers great choices of seafood from the Atlantic Ocean in breakfast, lunch, dinner, kid's choice and late night dishes. There are also steak, rib, and pasta choices for those who are not seafood lovers. While Mahi Mah's attracts many customers throughout the day, this restaurant is extremely eye-catching in the evenings with the sounds of band music, which frequently travels from the next door 7th Street Stage, and the rushing waves of the beach if you are seated in the outdoor patio area.

One of my personal favorites because of its Belgian waffles, Mary's Restaurant, was not as fancy in design as Mahi Mah's, having more of an IHOP appearance, but had even better food. It is not located on the oceanfront nor does it offer live entertainment. However the food, breakfast being its specialty, was phenomenal and reminds year-round residents and tourists of a great, down-south, home cooked meal.

"It was hard to come up with a con for this place. It is a local breakfast place that serves all the standard breakfast fare. They have the absolute best Corned Beef Hash that I have ever had! I don't know exactly what it is that makes it different, but I have never found it anywhere else (or been able to make it at home) and come close," said David of Bel Air, MD on the website, MyTravelGuide.com.

Pleasing Entertainment and Sights

Entertainment can be found in the family oriented activities and restaurants, but Virginia Beach also offers other forms of specific entertainment. A tour boat can be viewed frequently sailing parallel to the boardwalk as it carries eager tourists, with flashing cameras, from one end of the boardwalk to the other. Smaller boats would travel with tourists who were brave enough to try parasailing. There are mini amusement parks, generally with one large Ferris wheel, a few smaller rides, a water ride and a few concession stands. Large and medium sized stages are found along the boardwalk with performances from local and well-known entertainers. Along Atlantic Avenue, a tourist can find mirror maze houses, fun houses and haunted houses as fun for a small fee. Finally, but not least (and probably the most frequently utilized), tourist and residents entertain themselves by enjoying the warm water of the beach itself.

Along Virginia Beach, a person can find spectacular sights. These sights can include, but are not limited to, the King Neptune statute, mini ocean inspired statues (fish, sea shells, crabs, etc.) and beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Virginia Beach is a must for travelers with families and a desire to have fun.

Virginia Beach sounds really nice. I like the fact that the water is warm and in your first picture there's a sign prohibiting swearing. That's good to know for families who will be taking their children to the beach and for others who do not want to hear that kind of language.
