Fayetteville has long served as the hub of Northwest Arkansas. Best known as the home of the University of Arkansas and its Razorbacks, its offerings go far beyond sports. Fayetteville is close everything in Northwest Arkansas

Explore the city and you'll discover local history, museums, the region's best music scene, shopping and dining that include the newest trends, rare antiques, and a large variety of eateries. All with the personality and charm that only Fayetteville can offer.

The Ozark Military Museum is worth spending a couple of hours at checking out military vehicles and aircraft. (They have limited hours so visit their website at ozarkmilitarymuseum.org.) And, the Arkansas Air Museum at Drake Field has some very interesting old airplanes, from famous racing planes of the 1920s and 1930s to an early airliner. Many of the historic aircraft in this museum are unusual among museum exhibits, because many of them still fly. (Visit them at arkmuseum.org for details)

There are several areas nearby which were once battlefields of the Civil War. One of these is only about 15 minutes from town, the Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park, site of one of the major battles of the war. The park protects the battle site and depicts the Battle of Prairie Grove, where on December 7, 1862, the Confederate Army of the Trans-Mississippi clashed with the Union Army of the Frontier resulting in about 2,700 casualties. There is also a museum and walking and driving trails. Admission is free. (Check out arkansasstateparks.com/prairiegrovebattlefield for more information.)

The Downtown Square also has a nice choice of shops and restaurants and the gardens at the square are beautiful. From April to October this is the location for their local Farmer's Market every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings. Local artisans also set up their showcasing their artwork.

Lake Fayetteville is on the edge of town and is an area for boating, fishing, hiking in addition to enjoying picnics and swimming.

Outside of the city, you're just minutes from sparkling lakes for fishing, swimming and boating. The Ozark Mountains are all around, so you'll find plenty of hiking and biking trails along with other outdoor activities. There are many golf courses in the area also. This is also where you'll find many of the campgrounds in the area.
