Why You Should Visit The Poconos

The Poconos in PA offers visitors a lot to do. There are activities for winter weather as well as summer weather and everything in between. There are things to do for families as well as couples. There are so many different options for places to stay and big resorts, as well as campgrounds and hunting accommodations.

In the summer, you can enjoy the beauty of Bushkill Falls. They have been referred to as the "Niagara of Pennsylvania". There are beautiful falls as well as other activities there, all at an affordable price. There are hiking trails there to enjoy and you can even buy a map for the trails. The main falls are 100 ft tall. They are majestic, to say the least. Even the kids will enjoy the beauty and mystery of Bushkill Falls. After viewing the falls and hiking the trails, the kids will enjoy a paddle boat ride or a few minutes on the playground.

Once you are through at the falls, it is time to go somewhere else for a little bit of fun. The Pocono Snake and Animal Farm is just up the road, about a fifteen minute drive. The admission is cheap and the kids just love it. They have some indoor animals and some outdoor ones. Inside, they have many different types of snakes, all in glass thankfully!! They have a few rabbits that you can pet inside also. The monkeys love to see people and really start to act foolish when they notice you watching them. Outside, there are lemurs, a bear, a wolf, and some more monkeys. At the end of the farm, there are some pigs and goats that you can feed with a baby bottle of milk or some feed, both of which you can purchase for a small fee when you first arrive. The kids just love to feed the animals with a baby bottle.

When it is time to leave there, you can hit Dairy Queen right across the street for a little treat before moving on to the next fun event. If you are not in the mood for ice cream, there are many other food options around. McDonald's, Wendy's, Perkins, a few diners and a few other restaurants are all in the area. Too many choices if you ask me!!! Then maybe it is time to head off to your hotel/resort for some resort fun.

Two of the bigger resorts in the Bushkill area are the Pocmont and Fernwood. At Fernwood, you have more food options and some fun things to do as well. There is an indoor pool and an arcade for the kids to enjoy. They also have bumper boats in the summer and in the winter, there is snow tubing down a big mountain. If you are a golf fanatic, they have a nice golf course to enjoy. Fernwood really caters to families. At the Pocmont, right down the road, you have lots of fun events going on at all times as well. There is an indoor pool as well as an arcade with a pool table and air hockey table for the kids to enjoy. They also have a kids clubhouse with instructors that will watch the kids while the parents go off and do their own thing. The kids can watch TV and movies, do arts and crafts and other fun things. The Kids World clubhouse also has many different events daily for the kids to enjoy while the parents are off doing what they want. This is a resort that really loves kids. Both resorts are family oriented and affordable.

In the winter, there are many places to ski in the Poconos. In the summer, you have lakes and rivers to lounge around nearby or go boating. Hunting is a big thing here as well, depending on the time of year. One thing that stuns many people is the wildlife. There are always deer lingering around. Sometimes you will even catch a black bear wandering around searching for some food. Raccoons, possums, skunks, foxes and turkeys are never too far away. The kids always love to see the wildlife up close and personal. They get a feel of what it is like in the wild. Many of the deer here are so used to people that you can actually feed them by hand without them getting scared and running away. You need to watch them on the sides of the roads when you are driving because they sometimes get scared by the passing cars and take off running. Many times right into a moving car which can do extensive damage to the car, as well as the deer. Just be careful and keep an eye out for the wildlife on the road.

If you like nature and enjoy the outdoors, the Poconos is the right vacation for you. With so many different things to enjoy, mostly outside, families can really have a great time and actually learn something in the process. With wildlife aplenty and the beauty and history of the falls and nature, the kids won't even realize that they are learning something new. Finding a family or couple oriented place to stay is a cinch and there are many affordable options. One thing is for sure, while on vacation in the Poconos, you will never get bored!!
