Let's face it all the "issues" are too boring for America to pay attention to right? Well, the simple fact is that we live in a media-driven society, and the media is controlled by money, so if one news source sacrifices journalistic integrity to be more entertaining by focusing on faux pas by candidates, then the rest must do the same thing or sacrifice being put out of business by the most entertaining news station.
But, if you look at America today, you'll realize that we're taking our status for granted. As if everything will always be Ok, because we're Americans. Well, that's just not the way it is. We don't care anymore about the implications of politics. We don't do any serious objective research. We just listen to what the media tells us. Whether or not you believe it, every media station puts a spin on their information. If you want to know the truth about issues or candidates, you'll have to watch the debates, look up objective information on the issues.
You can think to yourself, "One vote doesn't make a difference." But, if you think that, then lots of people are thinking that. So, one vote becomes a million votes. It's time to take responsibility. Find out which candidate REALLY supports what you believe in. There's no "one right candidate" because everyone in this country feels differently about something, and you're never going to totally agree with any candidate, but YOU need to find out who best represents your values.
Every candidate is going to say that he/she supports whatever you support. They're not doing it, because they're downright liars or because they thirst for power (not primarily, anyway.) They only do it because they believe that their plan is what America needs.
Here's where you come in. A candidate's "plans for America" are determined by his/her beliefs, values, and views. You have to discern which candidate better represents your beliefs, values and views to determine who's plan you support. You're going to have to do some homework. All the political analysts are silently promoting their own views, so you are the single person who can find what candidate is right for you. If you don't get involved, then you might just end up in a world that you don't trust, and you don't support.

Post a CommentDemocracy might fall either by the incompetence of politicians, or the incompetence of the electorate. Maybe both. Personally I feel that anyone who claims to know 'what the people want', is suspicious.
Nice job, Mat!
