Why Walking is so Good for You

Erica Dallas
I never knew that walking could be so fulfilling. However, walking is one of the greatest exercises in existence. Why? For one thing, there are so many great places to walk around the big city. I never knew about some of the great places that were around the city I resided in until I began to find places to walk. Find areas that have nice large sidewalks, serene atmospheres, and dogs that are not loose. Another reason to walk is because it really helps clear the mind, replenish the soul, and tones up the body.

Clear the Mind: Example: Let's say you went to bed with a lot on your mind and woke up in a totally stressed state of mind. Sometimes those moods can shift in and out, basically ruining the way you treat yourself and others. Walking can really help you work out some of the issues going on without being conscious of your even doing it! By the time you have finished, you will have had bright ideas amongst other great feelings. Try to walk in the evening times when the sun is just about to set, for the climate will be cooler and the breeze will feel great as you talk brisk walks. Go with a buddy because nothing is more motivational than having a support system in place to guide you.

Replenish the Soul: The soul needs exercise too! You know those bad karma vibes that you can get from treating people a certain way? Those emotions can be so tangled and the soul needs its rejuvenation.

Tones up the body: Walking can easily rid you of the extra fat that lies on your stomach waiting to build up. This exercise also gives you strength and you become more energized which really helps in doing other daily tasks. Sitting down or standing up all day can prove detrimental to our muscles. Our bodies need action and movement to stay fit. Remember to stretch before and after walking so that your bones can avoid being sore. Do not over exert yourself.

Many of us have so many things to do during the day, but walking is one of the biggest stress relievers. I challenge you to call up a friend, put on some comfortable walking gear, and find a location that has shade all around and a nice breeze, then begin to walk a mile and back. You will feel so alive after your first walk. Take it from me - walking has renewed my spirit.
