Why Do You Want to Become a Published Author?

Ive always dreamed of being a published Author; but I was unsure of where to begin.
I have learned so many interesting thins over the years, that I feel compelled to share them with others.

"What is your reason for publishing a book?", many have asked? I have really never thought about it specifically. I mean yes down inside I'm sure I had reasons, unconsciously I have reasons, but what are they I ask myself.

Do I want to make money Do I just want t see a book with my name on it on the shelf?

Do I want it to become a best seller?

Or do I simply want to be able to say, I am a published Author?

Well when you set a goal, including publishing a book it is important to think specifically about your reasons for such a goal.

It will assist you in the direction in which you strive to make this dream come true.

Say for example you have children's book idea.

Do you want to publish such a book for family and friends, and perhaps give it as a gift.

Than maybe a simply ebook, or self publishing via a site such as lulu

Lulu .com is a fantastic website that I came across when looking for publishing options. It's a s simple as selecting the size, binding, and cover, setting your price and promoting. You can than consider yourself a published Author.

On the other hand, you may want your book to gain a lot of publicity, make a bit of money, and even become a best seller. That route would more than likely require that you hire an Agent. Your Agent will do all the promotional work for you, and in return require a percentage of your books sold. A word to the wise. Never, ever, pay your agent up front. They get paid, when they sale your book. Period. This can take weeks, months, or even years; but if you have a great book, your hard work, and patients may pay off. It really depends on what your book is, and who it is for etc.

So when you have said to your self I want to become a published Author, another important questions you should ask yourself is why. Why do I want to become a published Author? And depending on the way you answer that question there are many resources available to you, you just need to make sure you choose the right option that is going to help you achieve the result you are looking for.
