As a woman in her early thirties, I can honestly say that no matter what you like, you'll find something in Anime to tickle your fancy. Like vampires or demons? How about cat people or robots? No? What about angst ridden drama or hilarious humor? Well Anime has it all. Whether you enjoy fantasy, romance, science-fiction, comedy, or drama, there is something for everyone in Anime.
Any child of the 1980's growing up in the can probably rattle off more than a dozen cartoon shows they loved. I'm one of them. However, domestic cartoons began to loose their draw for me as I grew older. I still watch a few cartoons on Nick and Cartoon Network, but the appeal isn't the same. However, my love for animation is now completely and utterly fulfilled through Japanese Anime.
My first introduction to Anime was a cartoon called Voltron. It was about a group of young protectors who manned lion robots - which formed a huge robot called Voltron - and defended the world. The story lines were detailed and involved, and the chemistry of the characters kept me engaged and eager to watch more. I was hooked.
I grew older and lost touch with domestic cartoons-which are nowadays made specifically for children in most aspects, (unless you watch Adult Swim on Cartoon Network), so, I turned to Anime as it became more available in the
. Anime covers every category you can think, including Adult Only animation, which some might think is only about the sex, but some of the story lines are just as engaging.
You can't go into any story in the mall, or even Walmart or Target without seeing Anime DVD's. The treasure I had found as a kid and held onto with every bit of strength I had as I grew older has now been fused into American pop culture, and I couldn't be happier.
While I'm no expert on the topic because Anime is such a vast topic to master, I've been following Anime since the early 1980's. I've kept abreast of new series, movies, manga, and even the more titillating adult scene of Anime and look forward to bringing Anime to the lives of other people who enjoy it as much as I do.
