Over the last couple of years there have been some groundbreaking shows on US TV. Think about Will & Grace, 24 and of course the one I am talking about is CSI.
But CSI opened up a whole new concept that was not yet tried on TV. And Now you cannot zap to a channel and you will find of the now many CSI wannabe's like Bones NCIS, Medical Investigation. But none of them can even hold a torch to the program that they sprung from. After 7 years the show is as good as it was in the beginning. Something's changed in the show and some are not wanted changes as what they did at the end of season 7.
What is also unique these days in TV shows is that the original cast that started out 7 years ago is still in tact. Something that even the spin-offs from the show, CSI: Miami and CSI:NY could not do. Both spin-off have underwent cast changes.
CSI is placed in Vegas and primarily focuses on the cases and the evidence found on the scene and not on the CSI's personal lives although at times you do get a glimpse of it. Which would be great if they sometimes delve a bit deeper in the lives for the CSI's Brown, Stokes, Sidle, Willows, Sanders and of course Grissom. Particularly Grissom was we know little to nothing about him only his affinity with bugs and everything that surrounds it.
Overall I love the show the way it is and they should not change as it is fine the way it is the other 2 shows in the CSI franchise concentrate less on the cases and more on the personalities of the Characters. IN CSI:NY they did pull that off and you know more about the person and why they react to certain things. The First Spin off the Miami one I do not watch it that much as it is really looking like it is being more a soap then a TV series.
Also I think the first Miami was too soon smashed on our TV screens as everybody including me started to compare the show with the Vegas one and tried to find comparison and yes I did too I compared them to the Characters in Vegas. I watched it a few times over the years that it has been on our TV screens but never got into it. So I basically gave up on Miami. Though Funnily enough Miami beat Vegas this year in ratings so something must be going well.
Lets hope that CSI, the original, this year will be as good as always if not better. This Season William Peterson(Gil Grissom) will be not in a couple of episodes. Some seem to think this will effect the ratings of the show. Personally I do not think that it will, the show is strong enough to survive on it's own even if a current cast member would decide to leave.
