Why Water Exercises Are an Excellent Exercise for Seniors

Water exercises are the perfect exercise for seniors to meet new people and to become more active. Swimming or any water based activity can be a good way for senior citizens to exercise. Water based activities have lower rates of senior citizens getting hurt while doing the exercises. Swimming is a water activity used as a physical therapy exercise for patients recovering from major surgery. Swimming is one of many water exercises. It's really important to find something that you enjoy and will give the body a workout.

Water allows a person that's normally not able to move on land the flexibility to perform the exercise. In addition, water exercising is helpful for someone that lack physical fitness or have an injury that prevent them from doing regular exercises. Additionally, water based activities will give the body the exercise that's needed for a physical requirement. Also, there are water exercises that serve as a form of strength training and cardiovascular training.

Swimming exercises uses most of the major muscle groups. This can lead to a complete body workout. There is a lot of resistant in water when doing an exercise. The water exercises will help with building endurance, flexibility and strength. Moreover, water exercises give the benefits of resistance training.

Water exercises are really powerful and provide the aerobic benefits of running. Furthermore, water exercises are good for seniors because there's less pressure put on the body. As well, swimming is a low impact workout that will help seniors to regain their strength. Running, aerobics, and other exercises are harder on the body than swimming.

Swimming is an exercise or sport that's mild on someone that has physical challenges. Swimming is the most injury free exercise or sport because of the weightless factor. Many seniors are intrigue by swimming and a sport that seniors can do with any joint type issues. A person's body weight is reduced by 90% in water. To illustrate a point, a woman that's 140 pounds would weigh about 14 pounds in water.

Most seniors are able to participate in swimming several times a week because it's a low impact exercise. Swimming is more effective sport for working the muscles. For instance, movement in water is 12 times more resistance than movement in air. Furthermore, water aerobics is a safe and enjoyable sport for seniors. This exercise will fill the void for exercise and make the body more active.
