Why We Believe the New Health-Care Legislation Will Not Affect Us

Janice Meyer
New health care legislation should not affect us. My husband and I are both retired, and his insurance from his former workplace covers whatever Medicare does not cover. If there are other options in the new legislation that would work better for us, we might look into those.

The people who have no health insurance are the ones in need of legislation where they can get insurance that is less expensive and that covers most health issues. A lot of folks complain they do not want government-provided health care. They are afraid they will not be able to choose their doctor or hospital. I do not believe those fears will come to fruition. Some people also seem to think we all will be heavily taxed to pay for government-provided health insurance. I would be willing to pay a few more taxes so everyone could have health insurance.
Since this legislation passed in the House of Representatives, we are hearing all kinds of comments about it. One TV channel claimed the government cut $400 billion from Medicare. Our Democratic representative is being chastised on TV for having voted for the bill in the House of Representatives. Are these public accusations true, or is someone playing politics?

I have heard President Obama explain what he wanted to be in this bill, and why. Some people tend to be deaf to his words. He has said that no one, seniors nor anyone else, will lose their current insurance unless they want to opt for another plan.

Back when the new health-care legislation was first being discussed, I heard stories that if one were elderly and became critically ill, or needed surgery, it would not be allowed unless they could pay it out-of-pocket. Our president soon put the brakes on that rumor. It is ridiculous how some people spread such stories. I call it 'scare tactics' that shows a lack of intelligence, mixed with another form of politics.

I am definitely not worried about the new Health-Reform, nor do I believe any of the rumors, stories or lies coming across all forms of the media. If a political party pays enough to the TV, internet media or hard-copy journals, the media will publish these unproven horror tales as if they are positively true.

We do not plan any changes to our Health-care insurance as everything stands now. The company my husband worked for has always been a stable member of America's manufacturers, and remains as such.
