Why Do We Daydream?
Daydreaming is Gaining Recognition as a Method of Stress Relief, Inspiration and Recharging the Old Battery!
Daydreams as understood by some are those brief moments of disconnection from one's present reality and a time that the spirit 'steps out' to search the cosmos for possibilities. Those brief moments often seem fleeting and are quickly forgotten but contrarily should be deliberately examined and the information stored in the long term memory for future reference. Each little byte of dream data can eventually become a whole picture like a puzzle with one's life sketched upon it.
Most would understand this daydream condition I refer to as meditation, and yet it is not deliberate in most cases like meditation is. The daydream is often involuntary WebMD and not a deliberate act of sitting legs crossed or laying down waiting for the cosmos to open up and bring forth gifts of knowledge. Our spirit needs to and does take control for brief moments of time to go to the cosmos and bring back the information we need to continue on in our life's pursuit of happiness. I believe the spirit also does this in order to virtually recharge, reconnect and rejuvenate in the energetic spirit realm. This is why sometimes our eyes glaze over, we lose control for brief seconds and then suddenly snap out of it and realize our surroundings once again.
Many psychologists who have no interest in the spiritual aspects of this daydream state will declare something like, "To disconnect is unhealthy (neurotic) as a loss of awareness of one's immediate surroundings." I disagree because I have long considered the great strides made in psychology by those like Freud and Jung who learned much of what they recorded in an altered state of consciousness. Freud's epiphanies were often drug induced (not recommended) and Jung's were based to a large extent upon his personal dream studies. I am delighted that scientific research is presently being done that supports this positive daydream theory.
Sometimes, we have to get out of ourselves a bit in order to truly delve into the self. Why? Obviously, because who we really are, or could be, is not how we see ourselves in a perpetual aware state of being or the non-daydream state. Unfortunately, we experience conflicts, doubts, confusion, and even disillusionment in our every day existence and circumstances. This influx of information, often negative in nature, can restrict us from seeing a deeper personal more successful reality; one that is waiting in the wings to be realized. Note: Some of the world's greatest minds developed ideas while daydreaming including Albert Einstein and Walt Disney.
It is easy to forget that we are essentially a spirit being wrapped in a bag of skin propped up by bone and sinew. We get lost in our humanness and thus neglect the spirit within, our true self, and thus for the sake of self-preservation, our desperate spirit slips away without even consulting us. For example, have you ever been driving down the road and suddenly you realize you just traveled a mile or two, safely, but with no recollection of the act? There you were, sitting with the wheel in your hands and foot on the gas pedal the whole time but you suddenly become aware that you were not in the moment consciously. It is a little unsettling of course and yet you are somehow safe even though you were not really fully consciously driving the car.
That is not totally accurate of course because you were physically aware (eyes on the road hands on the wheel) and driving is automatic in a sense once you have learned how, but your mind...your higher self, if you will, seemed to be someplace else. In instances like this, if they ever happen, I strongly recommend you immediately take a brief moment and try to recall where you were, e.g. what were you thinking about. You may have learned some deep inner truth worth recording.
Daydreaming is not the same as feeding your spirit through prayer or meditation like we are admonished to do. It is spirit feeding the consciousness or conscious being it is presently inhabiting and it does such for the sake of self, the spirit self. On a personal level, nothing is as sad as a starved or ignored spirit. It will live a miserable existence when trapped inside a body that has no spiritual (energetic) awareness and this empty existence will be reflected in the body and mind of the person in sadness, depression, fear, anger and sometimes even arrogance. Arrogance can be developed as a coping mechanism which hides the emptiness the spirit keeps bringing to awareness.
It is almost as if we live a duality. We have the conscious state and the unconscious (some call it the sub-conscious) state. In this duality, we often forget to connect the two states intimately. Connecting is getting to know the self or realizing and nurturing the true self. It is important for all beings to connect with the true self or spirit on a conscious level and when one does this self-knowledge will translate into internal dialog, spoken or intuitive, which then results in a open awareness of information being made available. Sadly, this information is in most cases never communicated by the spirit to the mind...unless the mind is willing to accept it and seeks it out.
Is conscious daydreaming for anybody or just the spiritual guru type?
Daydreaming can be an effective tool for all because all people are essentially spirit. We are an energetic field or pattern in and of the physical energetic planes that exist throughout the universes. And we are a mere cell of energy that exists as part of all the energy that surrounds us and sustains us at all times. Most define this spirit energy as electromagnetic, waves, ectoplasm, etc. but however one defines it, we are energy, The spirit lives on after death as energy which does not require mass, the body, to exist. It has to exist somewhere because energy cannot be destroyed. Did you know that?

All people whether religious or not, need to develop the inner self in order for the outer self to grow and mature. The alternative is often growing old without ever having nourished the spirit and living in old age filled with regret over a wasted lifetime. In old age a spiritually malnourished person will not be able to explain or understand that the emptiness and sadness they have experienced is in reality a depleted energy system.
How does it work?
In the daydream state, the spirit slips away to plug in to the energy available in the fields that surrounds it in order to recharge. (Boost Productivity WebMD ) In this period, however brief, the spirit can then reconnect with the fields it came from and wants desperately to return to, much like a homesick person needs to return to their roots of origin and the place they grew up.
I believe we come here to learn and to grow and to find a way in which we can enhance our spirit's energy and bring it to a higher vibration. It is similar to living at 110 amps then learning to live at 220 and higher. Or it is like being a little 9 volt battery then learning to be a big 12 volt battery large enough to run our car or more literally our body. Please understand that living spiritually is thus so much more comprehensive than living solely in accordance with a doctrine or religious viewpoint. It is preparing to live energetically -universally and eternally.
Consider:
How are you really? Feeling a little empty? Feeling a bit disillusioned and frustrated and maybe even a bit lost? Take some time to consciously pursue the information or energy your spirit discovers when it slips away in that daydream. Even being aware of the fact that you had a daydream is becoming more aware that your spirit, your true life force is bored, tired, and run down. If you need to plug into some energy, some inspiration or uplifting begin now by acknowledging your potential to recharge.
To Begin: 1st pay attention to your daydreaming and:
Cherish the time you have with your self. For in the times that you have a moment for introspection you will find your fears daunting but your hopes alive. Cherish always the moments you have alone to reconnect with your true self. Listen to your own thoughts, shut out the noise from the world you inhabit and listen to what You would have you know. This is self-empowerment and self-awareness at its finest. Who knows (Oh, you do!) what you are truly capable of becoming?
